The past two and a half years I went through separation/divorce after a 25 year marriage, then watched cancer cripple and destroy my mum before finally claiming her beautiful life within four short months. During this time I made some very poor lifestyle choices such as taking up smoking again, drinking and also let my exercise routines go as I started working full time to ensure my kids didn’t go without.
It wasn’t all bad though as I fell in love with a really supportive, loving, caring man who helped my children and I through all of this heartache. And to be honest, he made this challenge easier for me too. When he cooked, he cooked according to my plan rules. He definitely needs improvement on the progress photo shots though (next time I will get a professional to do it!)
I have always been one of those people taking on challenges, then eating off plan and using it as an excuse to have a complete binge that would last weeks on end.
I also suffer Night Eating Syndrome, where I get up several times in the night to eat so I can fall back asleep. This spiraled out of control after Mum passed away. I even went on anti-depressants to help me sleep for a while but they made me feel so exhausted the next day – and I still got up and ate anyway.
So I decided to ditch them and work on it myself. My brother lent me a bar fridge, which I put in my garage and my partner and I would put all the kids snacks and tempting food in there every night. This really helped.
I had reached my all-time body self-esteem low and my weight was at the heaviest it had ever been. I had already ditched smoking in November last year, but it was time to get fit and eat healthy again. I signed up with Sue Heintze at Ideal Bodies Online and purchased a 12 week Body Makeover Program.
Sue was the only person who didn’t make me feel like crap about my night eating and devised a plan to suit my lifestyle – taking into account that I would need a night snack to make this work.
The food was delicious and my workouts were never longer than 40 minutes, five times a week. I had feedback emails every two weeks with my Success Coach, Mel, who helped keep me on track. They also have a Facebook forum with other like-minded women who were a wonderful support and extremely inspirational.
I love my new training and eating lifestyle and although I wanted to lose everything all at once (who doesn’t?), I’m very happy with my results. I’m about to do a 30 day winter challenge, then follow it with Sue Heintze’s Xtreme Results Challenge. Yep. I’m a convert.
My training schedule was:
Monday - HIIT cardio
Tuesday - 40 minutes Back/Shoulders and 10 minute Intensity Finisher
Wednesday - HIIT cardio
Thursday - 40 minutes Legs and 10 minute Intensity Finisher plus Zumba (sometimes)
Friday - Chest/Arms and 10 minute Intensity Finisher
My typical eating plan was:
Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 rasher natural bacon, tomato, mushrooms sautéed in 1 tsp butter with Tuscan seasoning.
Lunch: Zucchini Lasagna (or other 40 Day Max Fat Burn Kick-Start recipe)
Snack 1: Diet Jelly yoghurt or a Quest Bar
Dinner: 100gms of meat, vegies and 120gms of potato/rice or pasta
Night time snack: Yoghurt 1/2 yoghurt cup mixed with protein powder
