I have to say that this was an exciting journey with a learning curve in nutrition; workouts with enough variety to keep me entertained and; enough progress to keep me motivated. The Ideal Bodies Online program was worth every penny. The 12 weeks went by so quickly and ended with unbelievable results. My coach, Maxine, was great. We all deal with many ups and downs in our lives… not just the weight. This program helped me achieve the results I dreamed of.
After years of dealing with a hypo-active thyroid and badly injured knees (where the doctor stated no more running or deep squats), maintaining my fitness has been difficult. Moving to China in 2007 was also a big lifestyle change. No more gym, no more personal trainer, and a whole new lifestyle. Even my style of cooking changed, since many of the food items I normally used were not available in China.
Before I knew it, I turned 50. Four weeks before starting the program was the turning point. On a girl’s weekend get-away the pool conversation included “I am wearing my bikini even though I probably shouldn’t”. A walk along the beach sealed my resolve to get fit, when I saw a group of large, beach-ball shaped women in their bikinis. I realized that I was also headed in that direction and did not want to go there. Besides that, I am an older Mom and want to keep up with my children… not look like their grandma! Ideal Bodies Online offered a nutrition program tailored to food supplies I could purchase in China and a workout program tailored to exercises I could do in my basement. After discussions with my husband, my biggest supporter, a weight bench and weights were delivered and I started on a new path with Ideal Bodies Online.
I could not believe the old, flabby, saggy lady in my first photos were me. Where did that lady come from? It was not easy getting up at 4:30 am every weekday to get the workout in, but I did it. Within 2 weeks I was feeling great and could see changes in my body. Every two weeks, I placed a new photo of me in my bikini on my bathroom mirror. It was inspiring to see the changes and it helped keep me motivated.
The past 12 weeks have been a real eye opener! I have learned so much about proper nutrition, which is rubbing off on my family. I also have a new view of weight training and cardio that can be done within the limitations of my knees. I have gained the confidence that I can do whatever I put my mind to, even when some people around me are not supportive. The first 10 weeks were completed at home in China and the last two weeks I managed to finish while on vacation in Canada.
Both my 12 week photo and a look in the mirror show what my heart and mind feel, a sexy, more toned body ready to play with my children whether biking or scuba diving. I see shoulders with muscles that I have never seen before. My body is now on the way to being what I have been trying to achieve for many years – not a “skinny fat” but a body with less body fat, more muscle tone and much fitter overall.
My next goal is to add more muscle and strength and to continue to cement correct nutrition long term. I have already signed on with another 12 week Body Makeover Program, starting with two weeks in Canada and continuing back at home in China. This is not a short-term, one-time effort. This is to be a life journey for a happier, healthier lifestyle together with my husband and children. We want to enjoy life to the fullest while continuing to explore the world.
Lynda’s Top Tips
The best advice is that which I heard over and over:
- Be consistent.
- Be yourself and do what you need for you.
- Trust your coach and program – it really does work.
As a chocoholic, my favourite recipe is the Lean and Delicious Chocolate Protein Balls:
- 50g unsweetened coconut
- 25g additional coconut (for rolling)
- 50g finely chopped almonds and walnuts
- 25g finely chopped dried sultanas
- 120g chocolate whey protein powder
- Small quantity of water
Mix together, form into balls and roll in the extra coconut, refrigerate until firm.
