In June 2013 I was fighting for my life after every muscle in my body had broken down, causing kidney failure. With the help of a Sports physio I was slowly able to resume back to normal activities. Eventually I was able to get back into exercise. In Nov 2014 I decided to bite the bullet and get in contact with Sue. I was so scared because I knew my body could not handle too much exercise and I knew there would be days that I wouldn’t be able to get off the lounge.
When I spoke to Sue I told her that I wanted to approach things differently – I only wanted to exercise 3-4 days a week and with very minimal cardio. I told her I couldn’t lift heavy; I had to concentrate on form more than anything. I also told Sue I wanted to gain lean muscle; I didn’t want to be a smaller version of myself. I wanted to look fit and healthy not gaunt and ‘skinny fat’. After I sent the email off I thought gee, what a big ask! I want to achieve all of this with minimal exercise. But, to my disbelief, but utter excitement, Sue told me she could work with me.
I started my 12 week journey and with the help and support of Mel I finished my program achieving exactly what I set out to achieve! I did weight training 3 days a week and just 1 session of cardio. This was the balance I needed as I could have my days off to completely rest my body without feeling guilty for not exercising. Normally in the past my eating would have been my downfall but after being so sick I was so determined to fuel my body with foods that were only going to help with my recovery. It was so much easier than I thought and I did it all over the Christmas break and school holidays.
My greatest achievement is that I have achieved balance. I now know I no longer need to train hard 6 days a week to achieve an awesome transformation and maintain an attactive, healthy body.
Sue and Mel, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel and look fit and healthy, something I will never take for granted again. I know my journey will continue because it’s maintainable and realistic.
