Life in the Heintze household

I feel like somewhat of a stranger so I decided it was time to stop by and step up the blog posting again! So, a big HEY YOU to everyone in blog land.

Kyah Savannah

I'm on a mission!

My not so little darling is 16 months old now. What a fun age! She likes to mimic everything we do or say. Her latest words are ‘yo-yo!’ (as in yoghurt, she loves it), apple and boobie (don’t ask) :) I also play peekaboo with her (as you do), and so she likes to use the word boo quite a bit. We were in the video store recently, walking around checking them out when a guy suddenly walked in the backdoor. A surprised Kyah looked up at him and shouts “BOO!” And when I walk in her bedroom to get up her from a sleep she says it too. LOL. I’ve never laughed or smiled so much before Kyah came along! I bet all you mums can relate to that. But how fast do they grow up?

Training

My own training is holding its own, JUST. Something always seems to crop up – be it illness (mine or Kyah’s, or Kyah’s carer’s kids), lack of sleep, travel or injury. I’m dealing with the injury section now. My hip/groin/hamstring/lower back is playing up again like it did a few years back. It’s all interrelated and I’m sitting down in the next few days to design a rehab program for it. My pelvis is constantly in anterior tilt because of short hip flexors and quads, and lengthened/stretched glutes and hammies. Sitting at a desk most of the day (ahem, with really bad posture I must admit) makes it much worse.

At present I’ve been instructed by my chiropractor not to train legs for another 10 days. Add that to the 3 weeks I already have had off leg training and I’m starting to feel a bit too soft in the nether region. But otherwise, my upper body training is going splendidly! I’ve been managing 3 x week and when my legs get their mojo back I’ll increase it back to 4.

Travel

I recently headed to the Gold Coast to catch up with Kristin as we had a big project to work on. The Ideal Bodies Online workout database is being revamped and significantly added to and we now have tons of additional photos AND videos (Super K(ristin) is currently working on this).

So that’s just a bit of a roundup of what’s happening in this part of the world. I’m a bit bummed that summer will end in a few days’ time. Though I admit it has been too hot to go out walking with Kyah, so a drop in temperature may be a pleasant change.

I have ‘arisen’!

I’ve been prompted by an email from someone saying they miss my blog – so I am finally updating!

Firstly to my trip to the Big Apple in early November…

Saying goodbye to my little darling (and my big darling), was rather sad and there were a few tears. I couldn’t help but go through things like, what sort of a mother leaves her 12 month old daughter to jet off to NYC with a friend, and so on and so forth. I was feeling quite sick about it all, prior to leaving.

We did have a fantastic time though  and Nadia brought home the goods (literally, nearly 10kg of trophy hardware in her luggage!) from the competition. We did a lot of shopping, but unfortunately (maybe fortunately for the bank balance) it was going into winter there so I didn’t really want to be buying much in the way of cool weather wear.

We visited the World’s Largest Chocolate Show – plenty of tastings and worth every minute. Poor Nadia wasn’t able to even sample anything!

We had an awesome picnic in Central Park a couple of days after the comp. Central Park is amazing, so clean, and pristine – much like the city of NY really.

I visited the 9/11 Memorial which was very moving. In fact visited the actual site about 3 times but to get tickets to the memorial we had to line up first thing in the morning as they don’t just let everyone through.

We visited Times Square (a lot), Soho, Greenwich Village, did a hop on hop off bus tour, had dinner with Roman (Final Phase Fat Loss), ate a massive piece of cheesecake, and a full plate of baby back ribs (not at the same meal). Good coffee as usual over there was hard to come by.

Had a great trip, but after a week I was getting really homesick for my little girl and my boy.

The trip home could be described as nothing short of insane; starting in NYC and ending in Mildura about 30 hours later. With all of 2 hours sleep. Anyway, I don’t want to think about that anymore!

Kyah was rather standoffish when she greeted me at the airport. Like “hmmm, you left me for 12 days and so I don’t think I want to hug you or even smile at you just yet’. By the time we got back to our house she was all over me. She started walking while I was in New York :( Very bad timing on my behalf. Oh well, can’t do anything about that. Now she is a little trooper, walking everywhere! So funny. I’m loving this stage of her development. She’s such a happy, sociable little kid. Last night we took her out for dinner with us, dressed her up in a little white party dress with pink flowers on it. She sat in a booster chair and did not grizzle once – she was so interested in people walking past, the Christmas trees, and everything else going on. We were dining al fresco, so let her go for a walk and she just took off, mingling in with everyone, big grin on her face.

And, just a few days ago she said her first word (other than bub, mum, dad). She said ‘pretty’. I always tell her ‘pretty’ when I brush her hair or when she looks at my jewellery or sparkly things. Then she said it again to my mum while pointing at balloons.

Really looking forward to Christmas this year. We have a beach holiday planned and I can’t wait to sit back and relax!

Training is going well, even though I didn’t train once while in NY I didn’t put on any weight – which I find hard to believe. We walked and walked though. Not enough to walk off a big cheesecake and ribs though!

I haven’t even had time to post any pictures from my photo shoot, so here are a few below. I didn’t diet for these photos – I haven’t been on a ‘diet’ since my 2009 competition. Pregnancy seems to have done something very positive for my metabolism. I’m back to training 4 x week (when things go according to plan A or plan B). To be honest I haven’t been very consistent as there is always something that comes up like sleep deprivation or sickness (be that myself or Kyah, or even the day carer’s son). I went through a 2 month patch of severe night waking and was averaging 4-5 hours a night for that time. Thankfully I am sleeping a lot better now.

So, my training regime is 2 x week with a split of back/chest and legs/shoulders, plus two Crossfit type sessions which I structure depending on how I pull up from the other sessions. I’m getting my strength back finally, for so long I felt like a weakling and quite unsteady in the weights room. Sometimes I will do Back/Shoulders which is what I did yesterday. My lats are so sore today. Here’s what I did – try it out!

Pull Up (I used a band, and had a spotter – you could use an assisted machine if you have one available)

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 reps (with about a minute rest in between, less as the reps get less)

So you do 10 reps and rest. 9 reps and rest. 8 reps and rest, and so on. Total of 55 reps.

Bulldog Row (that’s what I call them) – 3 sets of 10 each arm. One arm rows on a cable (or with a resistance band looped around a pole) while kneeling on all 4s. These are awesome for targeting the lower lats.

TRX Pull – 3 x 10. If you don’t have access to a TRX then you could do reverse pushups on a smith machine, or any other back exercise you like.

DB One Arm Row – 3 x 10

Shoulder stand – basically just standing on my hands against a wall to develop more shoulder strength. I tried to transfer the weight from one shoulder to the other. That’s hard. You might need a spotter for this.

Alternating KB (or DB) Press – 3 x 10

BB Push Press – 3 x 10

BB Upright Row – 3 x 10 

As for Kyah and her sleeping – she sleeps like a dream. She is like clockwork. Up between 6-6.30 (that’s cool with me because I am routinely up at 5am – no alarm needed), back to bed 9-9.30am, up at 11am. Back for a nap at 2pm and up around 4pm. Then ready for bed again at 7-7.30pm and sleeps right through. With her molars coming through she’s had a couple of off nights but it’s only rarely. I so swear by the sleep routines!

So, that’s a wrap from this end – I so love being a mum, but do still struggle to fit everything in (like all other mums!) but I’m managing fairly well.

Going insane

With web techie stuff. I’m not a techie, so how do I know what I need for my sites? Why isn’t there something or someone out there that can help a regular non geek like me, understand what I need to get instead of finding out a year later that it wasn’t right, and I’ve spent thousands of dollars on something I shouldn’t have. Or getting different opinions everywhere you go but nobody explaining WHY. So frustrating. If anyone knows stuff about WordPress templates and CSS templates and sh*t like that and can help me, please please PLEASE contact me :)

Phew. Now where was I. Well I’ve been on a holiday to the Goldy – and the weather as per usual when I visit, was rubbish. It rained every day except for the day and day after we arrived. So, there were no visits to the beach. And, it was beautiful 22 degrees and sunny back in Mildy the entire time we were away. And, I got sick. Now I’m better, Damien has it – but about 3 x as bad as I did. Kyah hasn’t had her turn yet. Hoping for a miracle there. Kyah was great when we went away. We had a couple of babysitters who both said how awesome she was. Very easy to look after :) She had one bad night, that’s all, only because of her teeth. Poor darlin’ has 4 coming through all at once. She was great flying, slept on both flights on the way over, not quite as good on the way home but it was a long day! Leaving at 7.30am and getting home at 5.30pm. It was great to catch up with Kristin, Di and Hilary though :)

So, I haven’t trained for 2 weeks :( I had neck issues before we left and chiro instructed me not to train. I’ll be back into it tomorrow though. I am half considering doing a comp in April – am I insane? I feel like I want to try and be superwoman again. I have no grand illusions about being that competitive as I’ve dropped a fair bit of muscle, but, it would be nice to come back and compete after having a baby.

If I do I want to blog my experience and preparation. My goal would be to not do any cardio until I absolutely had to. I haven’t been doing any now, so I’d like to just train, and use the diet to drop the fat. In the past I’ve done copious amounts of cardio to reach the stage – I simply do not have the time (and definitely not the inclination) to do that again. I will talk to my trainer tomorrow. I want to incorporate some crossfit into my training.

Oh and I MIGHT be going to New York with Nadia for a competition! Stay tuned on that one.

Damien now is not traveling for work, phew. We can all be one big happy family at home.

So, there you have it – only a quick update today. Kyah is having a good old arvo nap, I might have to wake her up shortly. We went out for coffee with Nadia and Pete earlier, it must have made her tired!

Phew! Bubba pics and lots of stuff

My little angel is 9 1/2 months old now! She is crawling, well, her version of crawling – we call it the “Kyah Shuffle”.  She’s pulling herself up on toys and furniture, and, is starting to get into everything! She has 6 teeth fully through and another couple on the way. She sleeps like  – I can’t say a baby can I? We put her to bed at 7pm and within 5 mins she’s out like a light. She’s sleeping through most nights until at least 6am now. Every now and then she will have a bit of a cry, probably because of her teeth but we just hold her for 5 minutes and put some Bonjela on and put her back to bed. Last night we went to see some friends and took Kyah with us, and her sleeping bag and gear. She went to sleep on the floor, no problem. She did wake up crying a couple of hours later but 5 mins of holding her hand and stroking her head and she was back to sleep. It’s almost like she has a bad dream or something. Then we left at 10pm, had to wake the little darling, and she just has a tiny whinge when we wake her then sits in the car on the drive home, and straight back to sleep when we put her in bed! We have a couple of baby sitters and they both say she’s so good. She’s a happy, contented little thing.

Tonight I am home alone! Hubby took her for an overnight trip and I am using the opportunity to cook lots of food up for her, and do some things around the house in readiness for our holiday next week! We are off to the Gold Coast for a week. Our first family holiday. 

So, hopefully I can sleep in tomorrow! What a novelty that would be. I had a good night’s sleep last night, but the 2 nights prior, I was up at 3am. Like, up for the day. Could blame Kyah only one of those times.

Training wise I’m going well, only doing 2 x week, but those sessions are long and tough. My strength is improving with each workout. I’m still weighing under 50kg, but have definitely a lot more shape back now. I keep getting asked if I am going to do another comp. Honestly, the idea is nice, but the reality isn’t so nice! Just don’t think I want to bad enough for a start. Plus, I have a really big project happening as well as completely revamping my www.idealbodyblueprint.com site. It’s going to be awesome when done.

The other project is www.FemaleFatFreeSolution.com – Kristin and I have been working on this for some time, but finally I now have a partner ready to lauch with me and we are doing that in February.

The other thing to throw in the mix is that I’m going to pretty much be a single mum for the next 8 months or so. :( However, it is hopefully for the best. Damo has a job traveling, and will be away for 5 weeks straight almost as soon as we return from Qld. He’s having trouble already with the thought of leaving Kyah for so long. It will be tough for me too because Damien shares a lot of the child rearing responsibilities and so I will really feel it being on my own! Even though Kyah is in care 4 x week, when you throw in laundry, dishes, groceries, cooking (I cook all bub’s food), looking after Big Pud, other appointments and domestic jobs, you really have little time left for much at all. Add exercise to that mix, and sleep if I need to catch up after a bad night…but, for some strange reason I’m looking forward to the challenge. I think I can do it!

I just cooked up a few different things for Kyah. Broccoli, spinach and apple. Apple, ricotta, sultanas and rice, with a little cinnamon. Broccoli, ricotta, parmesan. Sweet potato – which tomorrow I will cook up some pumpkin and pasta, and add a little ricotta with that. I’ve done the egg test and the peanut butter test and all appears ok there. No allergies detected so far.

For me tonight I cooked up Lemon Mustard Herb Chicken courtesy of www.idealbodiesonline.com/fitcooking – Dave Ruel has an amazing fat loss cookbook and the recipes are so tasty, but easy as pie! A couple of nights ago I did Deviled Chicken – even Damo said it was ‘awesome’. Here is a pic of it – I sent the recipe around to my subscribers, if you didn’t get it, send me an email. 

So, that’s a quick run down of what has been happening here. I’m really looking forward to some warm weather – that hot snap of 4 straight days of 27 degrees has me hanging for summer!

Still alive and kicking…

Wow. What happened to the last few months?? Our gorgeous Kyah is almost 4 months old now and she has grown up quickly! She’s babbling away and cackling, and learning to roll over and even hold her bottle! I had a computer meltdown about a month ago, and, because I had not backed up since early October before Kyah was born, I lost 3 months of work :( Hey who thinks about backups when you have a newborn! Anyway, it took me 2 weeks to get a new computer, and another week to get all set up and whatnot. So, I have a brand spanking new one now and I didn’t lose a whole lot of stuff – but I did lose the photos I had resized of Kyah (lucky all are still on my camera), and everyone’s email addresses.

So I haven’t got around to resizing all my photos again but I do have these ones taken a couple of weeks ago. Tomorrow she is having some professional ones taken by Kidzshots (sp?), here at home so I look forward to that!

 She is a good little girl, very content and happy now. She sleeps well, but not yet right through the night. We put her to bed at 7 and give her a dream feed at about 10.30pm, and then she will usually wake anytime between 3 and 5 for another feed. I have real trouble getting back to sleep after this feed because she tends to stay awake for a while and babble away to herself! Damien and I are both getting enough sleep most nights as he does the night feeds and I do the morning one while he sleeps in.

We have found a great carer for her, and she goes there 3 days a week now which allows me to get some work done. Now that I have this computer under control I should be able to get ahead!

I am back at the gym, albeit inconsistently. I have just started to get some strength back and now that I am not getting lightheaded all the time, I am enjoying it a bit more. I have lost all my 16kg of baby weight, and am pretty much fitting back into all my pre baby clothes.

So, all in all, it’s wonderful. The first probably 8 weeks are a bit of a whirlwind and sometimes you wonder if and how you will cope, but you do, and when they get older and start to interact, it’s just awesome.

Kyah is such a ‘hot’ baby. Even when it’s cooler she just does not feel the cold and ends up in a sweat just laying on her play mat tapping away at her toys! Our carer said she has never seen such a hot little bub. We didn’t need to buy clothes for her – she lives in a singlet and nappy!

Anyway it has taken me 3 days to write this blog, and before that 3 months :) I hope to be back a lot sooner for the next installment.

Bloody hell I’m gonna have a baby soon!

Yes, I still can’t believe it, and now there are only 9 weeks to go! 

We had a fabulous break in far north Queensland.  The weather could not have been more perfect.  We had one day where it drizzled a bit and another that was overcast but that was all. Very thankful as it made all the difference!

Here I am at Palm Cove at about 30 weeks and here’s the belly pic at exactly 30 weeks. I loved wearing sarongs, I wish it was warm here as I would be living in them. So comfy.

My feet were killing me in Palm Cove – one day I gave myself 4 foot baths to try to alleviate the burning/soreness. In the end the only shoes I could wear were runners. I managed to get back into thongs by the end of our trip though.

I managed to finish The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – after a long, slow start it did get very interesting and I couldn’t put it down. Now looking forward to the next one (thanks Jude).

I have come home to a lot of stuff to do but I feel very refreshed and not stressed out like I was! Today I accomplished ordering a new Bruin Sleigh cot and change table from Babies R Us – a mammoth task, after leaving 4 messages and calling about 8 times while I was away and getting a bit of a run around. It cost $600 – or I could have bought it locally for about $1500! Nice bargain. My sis in law is going to pick it up for us because they don’t deliver to Mildura. Then I cancelled the cot I already had on backorder from Target – this one is much, much nicer. I also had to call Dell as my computer is almost on the way out. Now I don’t know why but it seems every employee at Dell has an accent I cannot understand. Again after many phone calls, I think I have it sorted to get fixed tomorrow. I had to cancel my chiro and massage and pilates appointments this week so there was another 3 calls. Got home to find that my ob/gyn wrote out the wrong blood test form for my Glucose Tolerance Test. I vomited it up at the last one and have to do it again L But the form is wrong, so I had to chase that up too and didn’t get the call back I was meant to. Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist for my regular clean and polish. I have about a thousand orders to get out tomorrow. I received 3 huge deliveries of products today that I have to pack away. Friday we are getting blinds installed in the bub’s room. I’ve got to go to the hospital fund on Wednesday and change over to a family cover. That’s if I feel ok after this round of glucose tests. Last time it made me sleep and feel sick for most of the day. We also have anti natal class that night. Damien had to fly to Adelaide today for work, and looks like will be working out of town for awhile (an hour away) which will make it difficult with only one car.

Just discovered my Blackberry battery charger does not fit into its hole anymore! WTF! Yesterday it was fine, now it’s all bent out of shape and it hasn’t gone anywhere. Gotta love all this technology.

So all of this plus catching up on the actual work!

So, there you go, I wrote that yesterday and just getting to upload the pics now.  We are heading out for dinner in a moment – I’m actually sick of going out for dinner. It’s all getting a bit hard for me now! Much rather just stay home in the warm. None of my shoes fit so not sure what I am going to wear.

My lazy weekend, and preg pics

Well I’ve been batching all weekend, with no car, hubby gone home for a football do. Not my scene in my 7th month of pregnancy, middle of winter.

Instead I have been poking around home washing my baby clothes and shopping with mum, and doing some work on my business projects and getting the house in order. 

I finally bought 3 maternity bras and let me say they are SO comfy. I shouldn’t have waited so long. I’m up a cup size, not too bad really. The ladies at the lingerie shop told me I was ‘tiny’. Well I’m sure they have seen it all but I definitely don’t feel tiny. Weight gain is 12kg to date which I am ok with. One week I freaked out because I went up 5lb. I was wondering if that was going to be par for the course for the last trimester but thankfully that must have been just an anomaly. 

Sleep last night took awhile to come, it was after midnight before I dropped off. I was thinking about work commitments and in the end I got out of bed and wrote down all the stuff I was thinking about to get it off my mind. I’m someone who needs a solution in my mind before I can stop thinking about it. Plus I was a bit uncomfortable, I am getting a little short of breath at times when laying down. When I go to bed my baby is always active so I lay there for about 20 mins and just watch my tummy move. It’s freaky. I’m getting some really good boots lately. I’m also getting up 3 times a night for a pee stop.

I would like to go for a walk today but it’s really crap outside. Cold and windy. Has been raining too. Tomorrow I have pilates, then I have an appointment for nails and eyebrows and then we have our scan! Bubba will be a lot bigger than last time at 19 weeks.

Well I’ve just proofed chapter 8, 9 and 10 of my 11 chapter ebook, Motivation Magnified. I shall finish the remainder tomorrow. It won’t be long before it’s released, along with our new Body Blitz Blueprint Transformation programs! I’d like to give 5 volunteers a draft copy of Motivation Magnified as I would love to hear your feedback. Please leave a comment if you would like to receive a copy.

So here I am all puffed up and pregnant at 28 weeks. I was a bit worried what I was going to wear when we go away to warmer weather but I was pleasantly surprised to find a few dresses that still fit. No shorts however so will stick with my sarong and bikini! I wonder if bub will like the sun.

Well I think it’s time to call it a night from here now. Time to eat and then relax some more.

6 months pregnant (26 weeks)

Well, another couple of weeks down.  Today bub decided to cause me some aches and pains – I’ve been in bed much of the day.  Well, I woke and got up at 5, and all was ok.  I did a bit of work, had coffee and my breaky.  By 7am I was feeling a bit weary again and also getting a few cramps in my tummy.  I had pilates at 8.30am so I went back to bed for an hour.  When I got up I still had the cramps, and an aching lower back.  I have missed my last two pilates sessions due to other reasons so I didn’t want to miss another – I went anyway.  It was all good, until I finished, and the cramping and back ache came back with a vengeance.  I went back to bed but couldn’t sleep because it was too painful.  I had Damien rub my lower back and get me a hot wheat bag and some panadol.  The massage seemed to help and eventually I went to sleep.  I didn’t wake up until 1pm, so it’s been a bit of an unproductive day.  The cramping is all but gone (not painful anymore, just kind of ‘there’) but I just feel a bit worn out.  Damien has bronchitis too, so we’ve all been doing lots of sleeping lately!

I forgot to take my belly shot this morning, but this is one we took a few night’s ago – I thought I should have one a bit more dolled up than the regular tracky dak ones.

 Yeah so the weight gain keeps on keeping on.  I’m nearly hitting the 140′s now.  So that makes it nearly 11kg!  I defintely have a rather large belly on me now.

My appetite is still huge.  After I had breaky this morning, I did pilates, and then by 10am I was starving so I had a toasted avocado, ham and cheese sanga.  Apparently that wasn’t enough so then I had some watermelon and a protein bar!  I’ve really got a thing for watermelon lately, just loving it.  And oranges still.  Anything juicy.

Next week we start our anti natal classes!  Then I have some blood tests and my sugar test on Friday, and the following week will be my next scan.  I suppose I had better go and do some baby shopping soon and then also think about packing a hospital bag!  Yikes, it’s getting scary!

My mum has been away for the last 7 weeks and so now she is back I will get together with her and my sis and go shopping for baby stuff.  Mum last saw me at 19 weeks so I think she might notice a rather large difference!

Nadia is back from the US and so we have been back to our very early morning walks in the dark.  I love getting it done and dusted before the day has even begun.  We are going around to Nadia and Pete’s for dinner tomorrow night.  Tonight we have visitors too, and the folks around on Sunday night.  Plenty more eating opportunities coming up!

I’ve already planned in my head my attack as far as training and diet goes after I have bub.  Of course, this is with me being as green as grass as to what motherhood will bring, but my plan is to be back in shape by my 42nd birthday (April).  I am going to follow my own diet plan – the Body Blitz Blueprint Diet Plan – keep your eyes peeled for that one folks, it will be released in the next month or so!  

The first 6 weeks will be getting to know bub, and just getting into a routine and letting my body heal.  Of course it will depend on what sort of birth I have too as to how quickly I can get back to being active.  I’m happy to just include walking within the first six weeks anyway.  It’s more the diet I am keen to get back on track with.  I may not be able to breastfeed so I may not get the additional help from that as far as welght loss goes.

Training will start just before Christmas with a bit of a conditioning program, and early in the new year I will get into proper traning, and will then change my diet to the other new one I will be releasing (am very excited about this one – it’s very different).

So, that’s it in a nutshell.  Still trundling away.  14 weeks to go if we last the distance!

24 weeks

Hi all, things are ticking along ok, though it seems to be slow, when I think I’m not far off 6 months pregnant it gets a little more real.

I’ve recently rediscovered a breakfast that I used to have many years ago, before I became so carb conscious.  Weetbix, crumbled, soaked in prune juice to soften a bit, topped with half cup cottage cheese, low fat natural yoghurt, some walnuts and a chopped fresh medjool date.  Yummo.  Sometimes I put a few slices of banana in too, and top with some crunchy bran cereal or rice flakes.  It’s a bit of a carb hit but it’s so good. 

Since being pregnant, my body so far, has reacted pretty much how I thought it would.  I knew I would put on a reasonable amount of weight, for a number of reasons. 

  1. I was so active prior to getting pregnant
  2. I was dieting when I got pregnant
  3. I was quite lean and light when I got pregnant
  4. I had morning sickness, insomnia and ‘run over by a truck’ exhaustion for the first 14 weeks
  5. I had to eat to stop myself feeling sick
  6. I was constantly hungry
  7. My baby didn’t like chicken and vegetables anymore – he/she much preferred lots of fruit, bread, potatoes, avocado and cheese kind of things
  8. I was unable to keep up any sort of regular exercise program due to the exhaustion and insomnia 

I’m think that no matter how good a shape you are to start with, your body will do what it needs to, to ‘catch up’.  ie to lay down the fat it needs for pregnancy. 

I think it’s important to be fit, active, eating a good diet, and be in good shape well before you get pregnant if you want the best chance of returning to something similar to what you were prior.  But being in that shape prior has no bearing on how much or how little weight you will gain during pregnancy. 

I haven’t had any heartburn yet, and I feel quite good, but just starting to feel a bit on the uncomfortable side.  I have these boots I wear out and you should see me trying to get them on.  I have to lay back on the bed and pull down because bending over my belly in jeans gets me too short of breath – and hot!  I’m still tired a lot, for instance yesterday I was up at 4.30am, went back to bed for an hour before getting up to do a pilates class.  I then went back to bed around midday for an hour and a half.  I was zonked again by 5ish, and was in bed by 9.30pm, and slept through until 7.30am.  I have had a bad cough however, and that wakes me numerous times during the night.  I thought it was getting better, but last night was pretty bad again – barking like a dog.  I also keep waking up dripping in sweat.  I have a towel by the bed to wipe myself down.  I’ve noticed the bottoms of my feet and half way up my heels are bright red now, palmar erythema I believe,  just another symptom of pregnancy.

Pilates has been good, I’m going to go twice a week once I get back from Adelaide.  Just walking, stairs and some bodyweight lunges and squats, and incline push ups for other exercise.  I’ll be off for a walk soon. 

The little tacker has been very active – apparently space is starting to get a bit tighter inside and my uterus is the size of a bloody soccer ball now!

Anyway here I am at 24 weeks.  I’m not going to buy anything major until I get to about 28 weeks – I’m a bit paranoid you see.

22 weeks

Well I have been AWOL this past month haven’t I!  I just haven’t had the inclination to sit down and write after my other work is done.  I’m working on a few things that I want to get completed well before bub arrives, and so have been putting my effort into those.

So this was me a week ago at 21 weeks.  Feeling rather chunky and awkward now.  Some days I am feeling really good, others I feel crap and am over it.  I’ve got to say I really haven’t ‘enjoyed’ it so far, but of course it’s all for the much greater good!  I am however still finding all these changes that are happening to me interesting.

From 6-14 weeks the nausea, exhaustion and insomnia was pretty hard to take.  But that’s over, and now I have new things to deal with, night sweats, more insomnia (not as bad though), tiredness, aching back, cramping and constipation!  I’m still waiting for the stretch marks and hemorroids (sp?) to come on.  Yippee!  Oh and then apparently when I give birth and start breastfeeding my hair will fall out. Makes me wonder why I didn’t do this sooner? LOL!!   The only thing I’ve loved is that I have had lovely skin all the way through – about 3 zits the whole time.  All tongue in cheek of course, I’m stoked to be pregnant as you all know.  It’s just different and I guess because I was so small and quite lean to start with, the weight gain and awkwardness is something I will never really be comfortable with.  Ok so I know you are all going to tell me it’s going to get a lot worse – I am aware – so no need for a reminder! hehe.

So I think I’ve cracked 9kg already, and so I’d say I’m on track to whack on a good 20kg.    Whatever will be will be.  I have been keeping active and I’m not eating a lot of crap though we are eating out more than we usually would.  I think I am holding the weight gain pretty well for having put on a lot, but from here on in it might be a different story!  My little bub only weights 400g for goodness sake!  To think he/she has to get 9 or 10 times bigger is mind boggling.

I’ve (almost) decided to give up the gym for the moment.  Unless I can push myself I have discovered I really don’t enjoy just going through the motions.  I have however signed up for pregnancy pilates classes that start on Tuesday.  I am also walking most days, and 2-3 x week Nadia and I go for a nice long session, which includes about 30 mins of stairs.  I’m getting a bit slow on the stairs now though and running is out for me now, it just feels too weird and uncomfortable.

I haven’t done any baby shopping yet apart from when I was in Myer I bought a cot blanket, towel and facewasher set.  I had to buy SOMETHING.  Then Hils gave me a lovely gift pack to take home with me.  I think I will wait until I get to 28 weeks before I start buying the big stuff.

I had a spew this morning!!  Fancy that, out of the blue.  I’ve had 4 spews the entire time, one at 8 weeks, 2 at 16 weeks and 1 at 22 weeks.  It is always early in the morning, after I have had coffee and I get that bitter coffee taste hanging around.  I top up with water and all of a sudden my body says ‘hmm, I don’t think so’.  So there you have my little ‘spew inventory’. 

I am LOVING my new king sized bed sick.  Not a lot more to say about that except that I now have all my lovely Sheridan bedding on it after attending the Myer and Adairs sales at Pacific Fair in Qld. 

Speaking of Qld, I had a great trip, and loved catching up with old friends and new ones alike.  I sent around a newsletter with this photo but here it is again:

 I have added a couple of wedding pics too, does not seem like 5 years ago!  You might recognize a couple of the girls in the photo below as Jodie Arnold and Di Broeren.

Oh I forgot to mention that I actually went to hospital the other night, because I had been having some cramps that didn’t appear normal.  I had them over 2 days, and backache with it, as well as just a sick horrible feeling and a heavy feeling in my uterus.  They did all the tests and gave me a scan and everything still appeared normal, so that was good.  I just had these cramps when I lost my first baby so I guess I am a little paranoid.  I have another scan scheduled with my ob/gyn on Wednesday.  Bubba is very active on some days, won’t stop kicking around, other days quiet in comparison.  We have booked into the hospital for birth, and also for our pre natal classes.  That’s in about 5 weeks.  I’ve looked into two childcare options, so I’m all set.

Ok so there is my long overdue update, nothing about work in this one, it’s a complete baby blog!  I must not leave so long between posts next time.
