Well I have been AWOL this past month haven’t I! I just haven’t had the inclination to sit down and write after my other work is done. I’m working on a few things that I want to get completed well before bub arrives, and so have been putting my effort into those.
So this was me a week ago at 21 weeks. Feeling rather chunky and awkward now. Some days I am feeling really good, others I feel crap and am over it. I’ve got to say I really haven’t ‘enjoyed’ it so far, but of course it’s all for the much greater good! I am however still finding all these changes that are happening to me interesting.
From 6-14 weeks the nausea, exhaustion and insomnia was pretty hard to take. But that’s over, and now I have new things to deal with, night sweats, more insomnia (not as bad though), tiredness, aching back, cramping and constipation! I’m still waiting for the stretch marks and hemorroids (sp?) to come on. Yippee! Oh and then apparently when I give birth and start breastfeeding my hair will fall out. Makes me wonder why I didn’t do this sooner? LOL!! The only thing I’ve loved is that I have had lovely skin all the way through – about 3 zits the whole time. All tongue in cheek of course, I’m stoked to be pregnant as you all know. It’s just different and I guess because I was so small and quite lean to start with, the weight gain and awkwardness is something I will never really be comfortable with. Ok so I know you are all going to tell me it’s going to get a lot worse – I am aware – so no need for a reminder! hehe.
So I think I’ve cracked 9kg already, and so I’d say I’m on track to whack on a good 20kg. Whatever will be will be. I have been keeping active and I’m not eating a lot of crap though we are eating out more than we usually would. I think I am holding the weight gain pretty well for having put on a lot, but from here on in it might be a different story! My little bub only weights 400g for goodness sake! To think he/she has to get 9 or 10 times bigger is mind boggling.
I’ve (almost) decided to give up the gym for the moment. Unless I can push myself I have discovered I really don’t enjoy just going through the motions. I have however signed up for pregnancy pilates classes that start on Tuesday. I am also walking most days, and 2-3 x week Nadia and I go for a nice long session, which includes about 30 mins of stairs. I’m getting a bit slow on the stairs now though and running is out for me now, it just feels too weird and uncomfortable.
I haven’t done any baby shopping yet apart from when I was in Myer I bought a cot blanket, towel and facewasher set. I had to buy SOMETHING. Then Hils gave me a lovely gift pack to take home with me. I think I will wait until I get to 28 weeks before I start buying the big stuff.
I had a spew this morning!! Fancy that, out of the blue. I’ve had 4 spews the entire time, one at 8 weeks, 2 at 16 weeks and 1 at 22 weeks. It is always early in the morning, after I have had coffee and I get that bitter coffee taste hanging around. I top up with water and all of a sudden my body says ‘hmm, I don’t think so’. So there you have my little ‘spew inventory’.
I am LOVING my new king sized bed sick. Not a lot more to say about that except that I now have all my lovely Sheridan bedding on it after attending the Myer and Adairs sales at Pacific Fair in Qld.
Speaking of Qld, I had a great trip, and loved catching up with old friends and new ones alike. I sent around a newsletter with this photo but here it is again:
Eleni, Kristin, Hilary, Leisl, Kerry, moi, and Cazanne at lunch in Brissie.
Now the pic below was from our 5th wedding anniversary on 30th April.
I have added a couple of wedding pics too, does not seem like 5 years ago! You might recognize a couple of the girls in the photo below as Jodie Arnold and Di Broeren.
Oh I forgot to mention that I actually went to hospital the other night, because I had been having some cramps that didn’t appear normal. I had them over 2 days, and backache with it, as well as just a sick horrible feeling and a heavy feeling in my uterus. They did all the tests and gave me a scan and everything still appeared normal, so that was good. I just had these cramps when I lost my first baby so I guess I am a little paranoid. I have another scan scheduled with my ob/gyn on Wednesday. Bubba is very active on some days, won’t stop kicking around, other days quiet in comparison. We have booked into the hospital for birth, and also for our pre natal classes. That’s in about 5 weeks. I’ve looked into two childcare options, so I’m all set.
Ok so there is my long overdue update, nothing about work in this one, it’s a complete baby blog! I must not leave so long between posts next time.

Hi Sue
You still look great and you are past halfway so YAY! I wouldn’t panic about the weight gain, you may not gain much more. I have seen HEAPS of friends and family who gained most of their weight in the first half of the pregnancy and then hardly any at all during the second half. You are so active that I would imagine this could happen to you
I know what you mean about the pregnancy skin. I didn’t realise how beautiful mine was until it was gone! I look back on photos and just think it was amazing!
As for stretch marks you might not get any, I also know plenty of women who didn’t. It’s just that people are so keen to share their horror stories that we always hear about the bad experiences from pregnancy – a pity when there are plenty of good ones

Hey Sue
Don’t worry about what everyone tells you! Pesonally, I don’t think you’re going to have a huge weight gain. You’re petite and in the big scheme of things you’re tummy is small. Yes, you will probably put on more towards the end, but I don’t think it’s going to be anything great, and I you’ll get rid of it fairly quickly. And if you’re small, you may find you won’t even get any stretch marks, and if you do, they’ll probably be minimal.
You’re looking great, and I have to agree with you, I didn’t enjoy being pregnant, but then again, I was humungus!…lol… The only thing I loved was that I got to sleep alot and dose off in front of the cricket.
Enjoy your pilates and change of exercise. I think it will do you good.
