Could it be getting worse?

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, I had a good day, despite it being one of the worst in terms of how I was feeling.  I even ended up in tears at one stage, just feeling totally nauseas and wanting to throw but I couldn’t.  We went out for brunch which was nice, I had a bircher museli with poached pears and natural yoghurt.  Then I went home for a sleep :)   All day I was wondering if I was going to be able to go out for my birthday dinner.  I had to wash and dry my hair and even that seemed a monumental task.  Ridiculous I know.  I had a spa and then another lay down in the arvo as I was just incapable of doing anything else.  I made a big effort to go out, heck it was my birthday and we were going to Stefano’s.  I actually stopped feeling sick, so that was good and I enjoyed dinner.  I was however, needing matchsticks to keep my eyelids open by 8.30pm.  Was home in bed by 9.30pm and slept right through.

So, this week the nausea and exhaustion seems to have intensified.  I haven’t been able to train since Monday (today was my first session).  I have managed a couple of walks/jogs though.

The upshot of all this is that I have been decidedly unproductive.  I still have a full email inbox so I’m sorry if I haven’t responded to your email, but I will get there :)

I found a really great pregnancy blog if anyone is interested.  Cassandra Forsythe talks about her own pregnancy, and how she managed to train (intensely) throughout (apart from the first trimester where she experienced the same as me!).  So today I took a leaf out of her book and put some more intense moves into my workout – some DB Snatches and Sumo Deadlifts.

I’ve decided enough is enough with the food and training sitch.  Gonna do what I can to really have a routine and eat better food.  Just this last week with going out for my birthday, having some easter chocolate, and cooking for Nadia and Pete last night, I feel like a big pogger.  My fat clothes are now getting decidedly uncomfortable, and I think I need to take a little more control.  Here’s my 12 week belly shot:

Yeah ok so it doesn’t look much in this photo but sometimes it does.  And it’s not just the belly, it’s the legs, the butt and the hips.  I’m feeling it big time.  And yes, I know, I better get used to it coz I ‘aint seen nuthin’ yet. :)   Bring it on.  I really want to see a proper preggo belly instead of just a chunky body.  I want a tshirt that I can wear everywhere that says – “I’m not fat, I’m pregnant (ah ok so I’m a bit fat too)”. LOL!

Anyway I’ve rambled on enough.  Oh last night’s menu – bruschetta, lasagne and golden syrup dumplings with vanilla ice cream.

Oh before I forget, we have some more new protein cookies in store!  They are awesome (soft and moist), I’ve tried 3 flavours, and I just LOVE the cranberry and white chocolate chip ones!  Check them out here – oh, and they are currently HALF PRICE along with the Trioplex bars and Brownies.

Hope the weekend has been a great one!

  • I know EXACTLY what you mean about that shirt! I didn’t really show until I was 5 months pregnant, until then I just looked like I was getting a bit “squarer” in the middle!

Think yourself lucky that you are not a high school teacher like me. I had to stand out on playground duty with the whole school staring at me and wondering if I was pregnant or just fat!

I even had one of the senior boys come up to me after he found out I was preggers and say “I thought you must have just started to “let yourself go” Miss, since you’ve been married for a while now!”

I had to laugh or I would have cried :)

    It is a crazy ride!

  • Just a note (not meant to scare you) – when i was just a few weeks pregnant I ran a 5km fun run – did my best time ever – but later in the week I went out for another run and started to feel sick. hmmm – yep I found out I was pregnant. I started throwing up at least once a day (if not more), bleeding noses and the occasional dizzy spell (not eating will do that to you). So no more training for me!!! I literally threw up until the last contraction! Then bliss.

I know it is a long time coming but you are growing a human being inside of you – do you understand how monumental and amazing that is? Cut yourself a break and do what you can, when you can and don’t compare yourself to others!! Everyone’s pregnancy is different. I hope yours goes well and you have a beautiful healthy baby at the end of it!! This is the only time for putting into the physical make up of the baby – you’ve got plenty of time (well sort of) for yours once it is born!

  • I’m glad you’ve found more ‘crazy’ people like me to encourage you to keep up with you healthy eating and fitness routine even though you are pregnant.

Just bare in mind that sometimes you really will need to rest instead, but good healthy food at this time as any other is really important.

I was going to send you a photo of myself the day before I had my twins which were 7lb 6oz and 6lb 7oz born, but I’m not sure how to attach it. I lost fat on all parts of my body (except my belly of course) and both babies scored 10 on the apgar score straight after a c-section birth with no labour. I was not trying to lose weight though, so don’t everyone write to me about that. But I did eat heaps of healthy fruits, vegies, lean meats, fish, eggs and yoghurt and supplemented with fish oils, flaxseed and a multi vitamin.

I put on about 11kgs all up and was allowed to go to 42 weeks because I was so fit and healthy and the longer the babies can ‘cook’ the better. Of course if they had known they were going to be so big, they may have reconsidered that. But I was feeling so great, sleeping well, full of energy, no discomfort that it really wasn’t a problem. They were my 3rd and 4th children too. I already had a 1 and 3 year old at home to look after. I’ve since had a 5th and kept even fitter during my pregnancy with her.

Good luck Sue and enjoy it. Being pregnant is the second most amazing thing you’ll ever do. Second that is, to being a mum. Do what you can when you can and let it go when you really don’t feel like it.

  • Hi sue, I don’t know if you have tried it, but with my 3rd pregnancy I had the worst morning sickness (not just the morning, but pretty much all day) and tried everything, but what worked for me was to suck on lemons. I took cut lemons with me everywhere and when I felt sick out came a lemon wedge!! Made me feel a little bit more normal.

  • you look great Sue! so good to see your nutrition and exercise is still a priority…..pregnancy can sometimes be an excuse for girls to sit back and eat like maniacs…as hard as it is with all the nausea etc, I found the exercise and long walks I did when pregnant really helped with the nausea…..you’ll be glowing for the whole 40 weeks I’m sure! I do agree with you though (the “thickness” you get feels gross and is hard to get used to!)….I found my flank area was the worst!
