Sick and sorry

Feeling very sorry for myself at the moment.  Today I feel really sick and exhausted.  Yeah yeah all for a good cause I know, I’m just sick of being sick, it’s so boring!  I just hope it’s not getting worse instead of better!  So, I am very unproductive, it’s really hard to get much done.  I’ve been up at 2am for the last 2 days, jeez how I would love to see 6am on the clock when I wake up.  So, I get up, I make coffee and I go to work.  Then about an hour later my stomach feels like it’s being sucked into my spine and I have to eat.  I actually don’t feel that hungry anymore, just this knawing empty sick feeling.  I am eating every 2 hours.  But I can’t eat a lot at once so I am probably not eating a huge amount more than usual now that I have settled into a routine after holidays.  I am however, eating carbs at every meal.  I even had a craving for a banana smoothie at 5am this morning.  Yet I haven’t been able to stomach anything like that before.  Today went like so.

Up at 2am, coffee (1/2 regular, 1/2 decaf)

Meal 1 3am- slice of grain toast spread with cottage cheese and topped with turkey breast

Meal 2 – 5am Banana smoothie

Back to bed until 7.45am

8.30am Slice of toast with cottage cheese, ham and tomato

10.30am 2 Vita Wheat with peanut butter and cheese

12.30pm Slice of bread with avocado, bbq chook and grated cheese

1.30pm Sleep until 3pm

3.30pm 1/2 orange

4.30 pm curry pasta, ham, tomato

7pm lamb rogan josh and rice

Holy cr*p that sounds like a lot of food.  As I said, small serves though.  In 10 weeks as of yesterday I had put on 1.8lb.  However, the scale shot up a couple of lb overnight (we did go out for dinner last night though).  Considering I am barely doing any exercise I wouldn’t be surprised to have put on a lot more, but, let me tell you even though the scale doesn’t register a lot, the change in body composition is very real.

I’m looking forward to the day I wake up and have a baby bump instead of just feeling chunky :)

So, I’m getting fat and my hubby is losing weight :)   I don’t think this has ever happened before!  He’s lost 8.5kg in just under 8 weeks so far.  You can certainly see the change.  Now when we go for a walk he is ahead of me and I’m the one struggling to keep up.

So I’m crashed on the couch tonight.  That’s about all I can manage.  I imagine I will be in bed soon though if I go too early I will wake way too early.

I made an effort and went out for dinner last night – it really is an effort most days, but I have to do something sometimes I guess.  We went to our local Thai, first time I have been there and it was sensational.  I am in love with Tom Yum soup – I’ve never had it before but it’s just something that really agreed with me when I was feeling sick.  I wanted some tonight too!

I’ve managed to get a few things finished despite feeling ill.  Slowly slowly it goes though.

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes.  Oh yeah we had the 10 week scan a couple of days ago and all still good.  Damien saw an arm but I could still only see a smudge.  Smudge has grown from 1cm to 2.5cm in 2 weeks.  Next scan is not until 14 weeks and that will be the big one where I am screened for Downs Syndrome.  Scary.  The odds increase like crazy every year older you get.

I hope you all enjoyed our newsletter today.

  • You’re allowed to grumble Sue. :) Just go with the flow as much as you can, to help prepare you for when your little one arrives. Plans and routines will be out the window. It took me six months to work it out, and I was over the stress…lol…

Congrats on your 10 week scan results too…it’s always such a relief and welcome news isn’t it?

Take care of yourself hey? I hope you get some sleep soon. :)

  • I love your blogs!! I tend to read yours,Kristin’s and Leisl’s often, and always have a laugh ;) You did eat quite a lot today :) Glad you could stomach it all and keep it down! You poor thing, not being able to get back to bed after waking so early. Hope this changes for you soon, pregnancy is tiring as it is. I know what you mean about feeling chunky, I used to try and push out the belly in the early months, so people could see I was pregnant and not just fat!! Madeleine my eldest was barely noticeable until about 6 months preg, but I guess I was only 19! Aaliyah and Ella made me really huge! Enjoy it! Hope you feel well soon :) Oh, and do we get to see smudge’s(love bub’s nickname…Aaliyah, now 7yrs was “squirt”!) scan piccy?

  • I hope you are feeling a bit better soon Sue, and that your energy picks up a bit. You know, you don’t sound like you are feeling sorrier for yourself any more than the next person – I think it’s just cos you are used to feeling so fit and healthy that when you aren’t feeling 100% it feels like you are complaining a lot! Anyway I think you are doing a great job, and some days you are going to need to fuel yourself a little differently (be it more, or less) than other days. You are craving and eating good, nutritious foods by the sounds of things which is great!
Loved the newsletter, and the article on HIIT as this is a method of training I LOVE doing. Thanks also for the word format of the Drop a Dress Size diet :) Not sure why I couldn’t open it from the link?
OK enough space hogging in your comment section from me ;)
    Take care, Vicki

  • Hey Sue, hang in there. I think you’ve just summed up really well the reality of early pregnancy for those of us that suffer from morning sickness, insomnia etc. Hardly the pregnancy glow – more the noticibly grey pallor! It really does feel like a never-ending tunnel when your in the middle of it; there’s just no escape. But look forward to second trimester – so much better, and not far away now.
