I forgot to say in my post about Melbourne, that I caught up with the svelte new Kerry who kindly picked me up from the airport on Thursday.  She is looking and sounding really good and it was great to catch up, albeit a bit briefly, but we covered a lot in a few hours!  We tried to ‘freshen’ up a bit (rather difficult in 43 degree heat) for our photos at my hotel but it was hard work :)   We had to wait almost half an hour at the Herald & Weekly Times building at Southbank, but eventually were met by a guy to take our pics for the WT.  The photos should come out quite good, I think he is planning to use one with this old fashioned scale, with Kerry and I standing next to each other with one foot on the scale and leaning forward with stupid grins on our faces.  So, it should be in Wed 4 edition of the Weekly Times for any of you farmers out there!

I trained legs yesterday – tested out the knee.  Suffice to say I now have to go back to the physio!!  I didn’t go overboard but I did squat for 3 heavy sets, and I did one set at 65kg, just for 5 reps.  Walking lunges, no weight, as a superset, followed by 2 sets of Lumberjack Squats – and that pretty much did it.  My knee was quite sore after that.  Finished off with hammies and calves.  Yesterday I really felt the heat – it was about 44 degrees after all, however, it finally had an effect on me.  It really drained me – lucky I was half full of carbs I think!  Had a yummy carb up day – and strangely enough woke up lighter on the scales today than I did yesterday.  I think this week my scale weight will settle a bit lower than it has been.

This morning I was up at 6.15am, took my supps, had a coffee, bandaged my knee, and at the gym by 7am to meet Nadia.  We started on some basic posing practice.  Nadia is doing her first comp, and, I am sort of helping her out a bit.  I have discovered she is one of those people we all love to hate – she has been preparing for 4 weeks and looks like she is about 4 weeks out from the show already.  Less cardio, more food for her.  Lucky bugger.

Well, work is really busy, I have a bit of a pile up of emails in folders that I need to catch up on.  I might need a little nap today too I think!

I will be announcing our New You Challenge winners later this week!  Stay tuned…

I love Lorna Jane :)

I received a comment on my blog earlier about my post on Lorna Jane.  I decided to publish it, for a couple of reasons.  First I want to explain to Jade and anyone else reading, that I am not a LJ hater, and secondly, I also feel the need to explain that my blog is actually a medium for personal opinion.

You are right Jade, LJ is a great company who has done a lot for women’s fitness over the years, I don’t disagree with that at all!  I was simply saying that in my opinion (and I’m sure there are thousands who disagree, but also as you see by some of the responses, there are others who also share my opinion), I think some of the latest slogans are a bit tacky, and it appears to me they are grasping at straws for new ideas as to what to put on the front of a shirt.   Personally I own LOADS of LJ stuff.  And I spend loads of my money at LJ.  I have about 10 of the singlets I refer to above, but of course they are slogans that I personally like.  I have “Positive Energy”, “I can if I think I can”, “Nothing ventured Nothing Gained” and so on.  Just because I have an opinion on words on a singlet doesn’t mean I am defaming the LJ company.  Which brings me to my second point, and that is that I WILL write things on my blog that people don’t agree with.  That’s because everyone has an opinion.  Please know that my blog is for my thoughts, and my opinions, and whilst I try to be aware of being PC as often as possible, I know I am not going to please all of the people all of the time and I do tend to be a bit of a ‘velvet sledgehammer’ at times – I am fairly straightforward in my writing.  So, if I came across as ‘bagging’ Lorna Jane, that wasn’t the way it was intended.  I love her and her singlets - just not all of them :)

I think it’s interesting to have a little controversy every now and then, don’t you?  It gets people talking.

I also have the ‘never ever give up’ one – I think that was one of her first.  I just think she’s gone overboard.   I mean “Wish you were here”, “Live for Sugar”, “Try try try again”, “Love is all you need” – come on, get real!!!

H.O.T. and lovin’ it!

Yeah I have to admit, I actually quite like this insanely hot weather – well, maybe I should rephrase that and say that I don’t mind it, and much prefer it to the cold.  I’m sure I would probably think differently if I didn’t have reverse cycle air conditioning however.  Anyway, Melbourne was great – I loved walking the streets in the heat.  We had a $1000 win on blackjack on the Thursday night so I figured I was able to have a little bit of a shopping spree – I bought a really cute dress from Bardot, and a couple of tops, a denim mini and another dress from Forever New.  Had a look in Lorna Jane but couldn’t find anything I liked.  I don’t know about anyone else but I think she has lost the plot a bit with the slogan singlets.  There are WAY too many of them, including some really stupid ones in my opinion.

Because we had such a nice win on the Thursday night we thought we would go to Crown again the next night – and also because it was probably the coolest place to be.  I already had a good start to building up my pile of chips again, and next thing the lights went out!  Uh oh!!  But, back up generator kicked in and off we went again (all the pokies and electronic stuff stayed dead, just the card tables restarted).  About 10 mins later it completely blacked out!!  The casino was in pitch blackness, and so we went for a bit of a wander, to get a drink and see what was going on.  It started to heat up pretty quickly without the a/c on too.  Waiters were walking around offering patrons glasses of ice water.  I used it to drench myself with to keep cool.  We started to wonder if we were going to be able to exchange our chips for cash before leaving.  Next thing the evacuation siren started going off!  Funny, but nobody moved!!   We (obviously) figured we should get the hell out of there so we headed towards the exit.  By the time we got there, hoards of people were also leaving.  It was really quite insane.  Outside there were people everywhere!  Some traffic lights were down, and apparently the city loop stopped running for awhile too with lots of train travellers stranded at Flinders Street.   It really seems ridiculous that the state can’t handle a few hot days without things falling to pieces.

So anyway, we still have $300 worth of casino chips in our possession!!

Ok, training yesterday was awesome – even in 44 degree heat.  Chest and rear delts.  I benched my body weight minus a kilo for a couple of sets of 2.  So, I was up at bloody 5am this morning, what what reason I do not know.  Not really enough sleep the last couple of days.  But, I needed to be up pretty early to get cardio out of the way before it got too hot.  I went just after 7am, taped my knee up first, then did a warm up, some short sprints, rest, moderate cardio (walked home then to supermarket!) then longer hard intervals while carrying my groceries!  Total of about 50 mins.  I had to get my fresh dates and other stuff for breaky – carb day today!!  Tonight I am making spaghetti carbonara – a ‘healthy’ version.  Only small amounts of cheese and cream involved but it’s oh so good!

Skin folds down very slightly – which I am happy about because I wasn’t expecting them to be.  Upper body stayed relatively the same, and some dropped off my legs so that’s what I am looking for.  My weight is staying in the 116′s but I’m looking harder and leaner through the chest and midsection, and my legs/hips are starting to move too.

So I’ve booked my airfare to Melbourne on 21st Feb for Mike Robertson’s seminar.  Can’t believe Qantas charge a 10% fee to use a visa card – that is robbery!!  I’ve had a few enquiries about training sessions/consults while I’m down there so will tee something up with these people soon as I figure out my flight back.

Today is leg day :)   It will be interesting to see what I can do with this knee.  I will train strapped, and I will get there early to do a decent warm up.  Ok, time for another coffee I think, but this will be number 3 for the day which is probably one too many.  Lunch today is going to be cherry and light cream cheese oat pancakes :)
