Filming completed!

I had a blast filming the Campbell Live segment yesterday.  Tim, the camera and sound guy/reporter all in one, was really easy going and made me feel really comfortable.  As would happen, I answered the last 3 questions really well, exactly how I wanted, and, bummer, the battery on the camera had gone flat.  So, we had to do them over and you think I could say what I wanted to say?  In the end I gave up on one question!  After we completed the interview, we did some gym training and then some running/stretching outdoors.  I was much happier with hair and makeup this time!

I met the lovely Liz today.  She is just gorgeous, am so pleased I had the opportunity to meet her.  I wished I had her with me for the interview, she is so over the moon with her results and how comfortable she now feels about food – she is a walking testimonial for Ideal Bodies Online!  She gave me a lovely card, flowers and a vase.  We got a couple of photos which I will put up once I get home.

We just got back from the MCG – North Melbourne are an absolute disgrace so we just decided to come back home to some warmth.  Thank goodness I wore those ugg boots, at least my feet were  nice and toasty the entire time.

We went to the Save Water Awards at the Grand Hyatt last night and had the pleasure of sitting at Rob Gel, the MC’s table.  Tonight we are off to our favourite Lygon Street, for some gnocchi, and whatever else takes our fancy.

Enjoying a few days off training – my left glute/adductor is causing me some grief still so a rest should do it good.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend.

Tanned and ready for action

My back at present, which I am rather pleased with.  Note I cut off the rest of me.

Tomorrow we are off to Melbourne – I will be heading straight to Expozay on Collins Street for my hair do and makeup.  Hopefully it will all be done in time for my interview at 2.30pm.  Apparently I will be filmed working out, or running down the street!  I am hoping the former, it’s a bit more ‘me’.  That evening we are attending the Save Water Awards at the Grand Hyatt.

I am looking forward to catching up with one of my latest 12 week finishers, Liz L.  I just put her pics up in our gallery, they are absolutely unbelievable – you have to check them out!  This girl lost 21kg in 12 weeks.  What a great set of abs she now has!  We are meeting up on Saturday morning for a coffee before we go to the footy.  Taking my ugg boots to wear to the footy, bugger it, I’m not going to freeze my butt off if I can help it.

This week I had two interviews for the local papers.  One included some photos at the gym which I got a bit of a preview of and a couple looked pretty good.  Hopefully they use the good ones and not the crap ones :)

I’m having the rest of the week off training, coach’s orders’.  Well it was his suggestion.  I have had some hip/glute/groin problems – so sore in the butt as I previously wrote about.  I was able to get in to my magician of a chiropractor today.  I made him work for his money!  He had all his little contraptions out this time!  A block for my knee, one for my hip, some other thing for my jaw.  Apparently my left hip, knee and ankle had all rotated, causing my issues.  It’s heaps better already.  Not sure what the go is with my jaw – it’s just sore!

I did train today, ummed and ahhed about it though as it was quads/glutes and I didn’t want to make things worse.  I did go, but made it a quick workout and combined legs and shoulders.   I almost had a pretty bad day with food - I was really struggling at lunchtime, but pulled myself together.  Veggies didn’t make an appearance until this evening unfortunatley.  So, the bad thing I ate today was some cheese on a piece of bread.

Oats, MRM Low Carb protein, flax meal

Myoplex Lite

Salmon (tiny piece), sardines and half avocado, followed by choc protein, raspberries and some almonds and yoghurt (bit of a big meal)

Slice of bread with cheese

And now I just improved my day with a rice, corn, beans, tuna, avocado salad.  Yes there are some carbs, but that’s about all I could find in my fridge.  I’m not shopping looking like this. :)

Well, I best be off and pack my bags.

My heavy media schedule

Couple of  pics from Carolyn’s comp back in April.  Selina and I, and Liz and I.  Thank you for the mail Liz :)

That’s my attempt at humour.  I have 2 interviews and photo sessions with local papers this week and my tv interview on Friday!   We sent off a local press release a couple of weeks ago, hence the interest.  One of the papers wanted to come to my house and photograph me in a bikini!!  Firstly I’m like, ‘Why??” and secondly, ‘ah, I don’t think so’.  I suggested some photos training at the gym, and she was all keen on that but then asked if I could wear my bikini!!!  Can you imagine, training in a gstring!  Now, that would be a sight.  And not a pretty one I wouldn’t think!  I will have to tidy up my office tomorrow, the other paper are coming to my house.

Cardio only today – gee I’m sore.  I have a bit of a adductor/glute problem at the moment.  Still sore from squat day about 5 days ago.  Hurts to touch and is like a big hard piece of rope.  I get a stinging pain in my glute when I bend over.  Had a massage today which was excellent.  The adductor pain is really deep.  He says he’s palpating bone (femur) where it hurts.  So, for cardio I went for a walk/jog outside.  It actually was very pleasant outside today.  Bring on the warm weather – please!!  Tonight I walked to the video store to take a dvd back.  Tomorrow, training – back, chest and rear delts.  At least my legs and butt get another couple of days rest.

Finally catching up with Jodie tomorrow night.  It’s been ages!!  Going to Spanish Bar and Grill at the Grand.  Look forward to catching up on all the goss.

No other news for today :)

Balanced

So in my freestyle eating (eating what I want, when I want) world, what does a balanced day of eating look like for me?

I get up have my water, supplements etc, then make coffee.

Meal 1 – MRM Low Carb choc protein, 1/3 cup oats, 1 tablespoon flax meal – all mixed in.  I add a pinch of sea salt to my oats, to help my adrenals

Before I train I have a serve of Biotest Superfoods, glutamine, creatine, and some BCAA’s which I continue to have every few sets while I train.

Meal 2 – Post workout – Myoplex Lite, flavoured with espresso, half cup full fat milk and some white choc pudding mix – plus taurine, creatine, glutamine

Meal 3 – Small piece of grilled salmon, big bowl of veggies (broccolini, silverbeet, broccoli), 1/4 avocado and 1tsp curry paste

Meal 4 – Low Carb choc protein, handful of almonds, about a cup of frozen raspberries and a few tablespoons of natural yoghurt and a tsp of flax meal

Meal 5 – Indian Take Away – hubby’s favourite.  While he had the rice and naan bread I had a bowl of veg like Meal 3, and added some lamb and chicken with just a little bit of the sauce.

Meal 6 – 1/2 scoop protein, handful of frozen raspberries and tablespoon natural yoghurt and flax meal

I then have my ZMA, PS and magnesium before I go to bed.

I love my job

supermodels-1.jpgEspecially

What a bunch of posers!!

I love my job, especially when I get emails like this:

I did alot of research (on the net and locally) for a programme that I thought would suit me for what I wanted to achieve. And my choice of idealbodiesonline has definitely lived up to my expectations. I needed both a training and nutrition programme as I have always been fairly active but knew my eating habits weren’t the best. I have now learnt so much re amount of meals and their timing along with the types of foods included at each meal. I used to get the shakes and I’m sure my body was literally eating itself (due to starving my muscles) but at the same time cm’s were piling on. I have learnt alot about sugar and am now disgusted at how much sugar I was ingesting via 2 tspns in several cups of coffee a day, packets and packets of biscuits each week, cakes and OMG bucket loads of chocolates. I was using these bad bad bad foods as quick fixes for my everyday occuring shakes.

I also work full time and have a family to look after so time and getting to a gym was very restricted and I love that I can do my weights at home (sometimes in my PJ’s in the morning!!!!)- that has worked so well for me…to the point my hubby is considering converting the garage to a mini gym!!!

So…..I extend my gratitude and thanks for your excellent product and service provided by idealbodiesonline. I have not only completed a 12 week programme with wonderful results but have gained a new lifestyle that I intend to continue forever.

Thank you MM, you did a splendid job!  (I will keep you anonymous!)

Thanks so much to Kimmy and Stefanie (what  lovely messages you both wrote me).  Stef, maybe you need your plan tweaked.  Adrenals and thryoid are closely linked so I’m sure it has something to do with those.  Damien is going well thank you for asking.

Kimmy, the Gold Coast trip is weekend of October 18 if you want to come!  I hope things are ok, yes you are superwoman but maybe it’s time you slowed down a litte ;)   Things can wait you know :)

Now let’s see, today, what did I get up to.  I had a very flat feeling day yesterday, I didn’t train or do cardio.  I slept in until 8am today, that has been unheard of for me recently – it’s more like 4am, on a regular basis.  So by the time I had my beloved morning coffee and sat down and checked and answered emails, had breakfast, etc, it was nearly lunchtime by the time I got to the gym.  How much do I love this program I am doing!  I’m up to week 3 so the sets are increasing and it’s getting tough.  Hamstrings/glutes/lower back today – this is my workout – try it, guarantee you will be sore for days.

Alternating back/forward lunge with DB – 6 sets of 5 reps (5 reps back/forward each leg) – 12.5kg and 10kg

Single Leg Romanian Deadlift – 5 sets of 6 reps – 17.5kg for 3 sets, 15kg for 2 sets (I am getting so good at these, my core strength has increased out of sight)

Then, the next 3 exercises are set up as a tri set, with a rest after the 3rd exercise:

BB Seated Good Morning - 15 reps

Bridge into Hamstring Curl and 3 second hold, on Swiss Ball (might sound easy, try it).  As many reps as possible.  The trick is lifting your hips and holding at the top portion of the movement.

DB Swing – you squat explosively while swinging (controlled) a (12.5kg) DB, for 30 seconds.  Great ham/glute (and core) exercise.

You do this tri set 3 x through.

Followed with my ab routine:

Ab wheel rollouts on knees, up in standing

Plank hold – feet on bench, forearms on ball

Hanging knee raise (knees only slightly bent)

Cable chop

Side Plank

Mountain Climbers

Normally I do two circuits but was buggered and just did the one.  I was going to do some cardio as well this afternoon but instead I wrote a program, and got caught up on some work instead.  I think it is a good idea to get in front this week, as I will be off Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday.

We are going to watch North Melbourne spank Port Adelaide on Saturday at the G.  Haven’t been to the footy for ages!

Now, I’m due for a new program on Monday – Carter is writing me something to fit with my more ‘balanced’ lifestyle!  I am happy to keep going with this training program though as I love it.  Going to train tomorrow as well, as I want to get this workout in before the new one comes:

Bodyweight Triceps Dips (real ones, not on a bench)

DB Alternating Biceps Curls

Then a giant set:

BB Corner Press

BB Corner Row

Thrusters – squat with shoulder press

DB Iron Cross – squat with rear delt fly

DB Renegade Row

T Push Up

Carter actually states in my notes that it’s quite likely I’ll want to VOMIT during/after this workout.  I haven’t gone that far but let me say I end up sprawled out on the floor, my heart rate getting up to about 160, after failing on my last couple of T Push Ups.

Ideal Bodies Online

Who says it’s not for older people’!  We had a 69 years young lady join up this week.  I look forward to helping Barbara on the road to better health and fitness over the next 12 weeks.

We’ve had Dee, a world masters competitor, breaking swimming records left right and centre since she started incorporating resistance training into her regime.

We have Liz finishing very soon who has lost a remarkable amount of weight in 12 weeks.  We actually had to check with her to see if it wasn’t a typo.  I can’t wait to see her photos.

Tanya and Micaela just completed 12 weeks, both looking like they could definitely continue on and get up on stage if they so desired!  I’ve put these photos up in our Gallery.

Ok, well I think I might jump into bed and start reading one of my novels.  I hope everyone is having a sensational weekend!  It’s good to see the days are getting longer but I’m hanging out for a warm day…soon, surely!

Back in action baby!!

Hanging up the shoes!

But I’m hanging up the shoes!!

Have y’all missed me?  I’ve been gone awhile, simply not enough time lately to devote to blogging.  But I do feel I better give an update as I have had lots of people wondering where I’d disappeared to!  (I have to apologise for this post being in different fonts and very untidy, but I was cutting and pasting and now it’s all over the shop!)

I will probably catch up in more than one post – it will take me days to go into any kind of detail!

First and foremost – I’m not competing!  I know you aren’t surprised!  I’ve decided comp prep is just not healthy.  Certainly not for me, and not at the moment anyway.

My business is flourishing and has been growing rapidly ever since it’s inception (more on that later).  But mostly, my body doesn’t want to play the game.  I’d been training 2 x day and dieting for 6 weeks, with nothing to show for it (except some massive improvements in my shoulders and back which of course I am over the moon about).  My body fat won’t budge.  My trainer (Carter Schoffer from PN, who is just amazing) can’t figure it out.  He believes there’s something physiologically that is preventing me from reacting as I should.  In his words:

You’re doing something, by training for a physique competition, which starkly contradicts what your body is designed for.  Adding to this, you’re doing it after a lifetime of similar contradictory behaviour/actions (training for previous shows) and while battling a number of ailments (adrenal fatigue, GI issues, and possibly an undiagnosed condition).  Moreover, like Olympians, Nobel Laureates and the like, this isn’t an everyday / every person feat.  I point this out to communicate a couple things. The first is that this should be hard – very hard.  You’re directly going up against nature / evolution with one hand tied behind your back (the wellness/health issues) and you’re doing so in an effort to compete against a select group of other high calibre competitors.  The second and related point is that as a direct result you’re going to feel like liquid laugh more often than not.  This is what’s meant by sacrifice, determination and whether or not it’s worth it.  Much more than a time commitment, prepping for a show is a mind, body and soul commitment that doesn’t leave room for anything else.  It’s not healthy and not conducive to one’s non-competition related goals/demands/likes. This is why most physique competitors aren’t stable, don’t maintain healthy relationships, and are reliant on drugs – uppers, downers, painkillers and performance / physique enhancing substances.  To do this the hard way – without drugs and while maintaining a modicum of normality – requires everything you have. So, I thought about it and thought about what I really wanted – and you know, it’s not the actual competition.  Sure I’d love to get leaner to really see the improvements I’ve made in my physique over the past few years as there have been many.  But, the competition itself doesn’t do much for me – it’s the journey I enjoy, the process of watching my body change over a 12 week period.  However, the journeys of late have been a bit of a nightmare for me.  And you know what – no, it’s not worth it!

I actually count myself very fortunate as I do not have a problem offseason in maintaining a healthy diet and weigh/body fat percentage.  There are so many figure girls out there who struggle to stay in shape year round and blow out big time after a comp.  I have been there done that but now I manage my off season really well.  It’s just the on season I have trouble with!  I can sit on 15% body fat comfortably, but to get any lower my body is going to fight tooth and nail – and I am tired of fighting my body!!   So, I’ve finally decided I’m happy to look like I do above, year round.

So, what am I going to do now I’m not killing myself with training?  I’m going to focus on LIFE BALANCE!  I am going to stay in great shape, year round, and I will do less training for more result.  It’s nigh on impossible for me to dedicate 2 x sessions a day to training unless I neglect my business, my home, my husband and my family.  And if competing, the likelihood of having to do 3 x day was becoming a reality.

I know that for me and training, less equals more.  I knew as soon as my cardio was bumped up to all high intensity I’d be a goner. But, I was recovering so well with the fantastic supplement program Carter had provided for me, that I thought maybe I could handle it THIS TIME.

For now I’ve cut back to 1 day on 1 day off, and cardio on other days – the cardio intensity depends on how I feel.  I can control my food intake so much better when I am not overtraining.  It’s quite likely I’ll get leaner by doing less.

So, what else am I going to do?

Holiday!!

I’m going to Mexico in December!!  I can’t wait!!  My present to myself (and my hubby of course) for a wonderful year for Ideal Bodies Online.  We are doing a 7 night cruise to the Mexican Riviera on this magnificent ship, the Sapphire Princess.  We then have 8 nights to spend between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen.  We booked our frequent flyer flights last week, and the cruise, just have to look at accommodation and Mexico flights.  I have some accommodation picked out, very flash, but hey, it’s probably our last overseas holiday before we try and start a family!  There – I said it!  That’s the plan for 2009.  I’m getting on a bit and we don’t have any more time to waste!  Whether it happens will be up to the man above.  If it does happen, it will be a whole new journey and one I am excited about!

My wonderful business!

As for business, Ideal Bodies Online continues to go ballistic!  I have another tv interview coming up next Friday in Melbourne! New Zealand’s prime time current affairs program Campbell Live loved our Today Tonight story so much they wanted to do one of their own with one of my NZ clients.

http://www.3news.co.nz/TVShows/CampbellLive/Home/tabid/283/Default.aspx

So, I’ve booked the dermabrasion, the spray tan, the hair and makeup.  We fly down on Friday morning (we actually have a fancy dinner to attend that night at the Grand Hyatt too), my hair and make up is right across the road from my apartment, and the interview is at 2.30pm.  I definitely shall not be getting fake eyelash thingies put on this time – what was she thinking?

Amanda Laurie is set to appear in a large circulation magazine mid September.  And of course the fabulous Julie Ellwood is this month’s Body Blitz winner which makes it let’s see, about 15 winners over the last 4 years.  I think our track record proves we are the best!  I have simply incredible after photos coming in all the time.   It’s no coincidence that we can barely keep up with client demand even though there is now a plethora of online training sites out there.  What do they say…imitation is the best form of flattery??!

Ok well that is my wrap, there is much more but I will write in more detail over the next week or so. Hi Kimmy :)   It was great to get your message.  Think about you often, hope you and Kim are both well.  How about a trip to the Gold Coast?  We must get together soon!

Hi Zita, lovely to hear from you!!  I had been thinking about you and wondering what had been happening in your life.  I hope all is well amid all that study and work!

And something to finish off with that also hit home is this excerpt from an article from the great John Berardi.  I felt it was very apt and I’m sure this will resonate with many of you:

4) The Reality Check
