What’s been happening?

Not a great deal apart from training, cardio, more cardio, and training.  I am sleeping very well, often in bed between 8 and 9pm, straight to sleep, and sleeping right through, which is pretty unusual for me.  I started a new training program yesterday, so again, have lots of new exercises to learn which I am certainly enjoying.  Now, instead of a one on, one off regime, I’m training 5 days per week.  My diet has tightened up, but there is still a lot of good fats in it – I’m concerned it’s too much for me to lose fat, hence I haven’t really lost anything STILL!!  Let me tell you, 5 weeks of 2 x day training and dieting, and virtually no change is extremely frustrating.  I’m sitting at 15% still, and it seems my body just wants to stay there.  My trainer says my shoulders have become rounder and my quads and upper back have improved since my last pics – even I have noticed the shoulders.  All to no avail with a layer of fat over the top though!  If I could only get my bottom two abs to come out I think I’d have a pretty awesome six pack!

I have a snatch exercise in this program – never performed these before.  I had a bit of a go last night but realised after 2 sets I wasn’t doing it right.  So back to the drawing board for next time.

My trip to Melbourne was good – nice to have a break anyway.  Did a bit of shopping, not a lot though.  Couldn’t really be bothered getting in and out of my many layers of clothes – it was SO cold outside, then in the shops it was like an oven.

This week sees me with a few appointments which makes it harder to fit everything in when training 2 x day.  Dentist yesterday, hair tomorrow, and accountant on Friday.

Ok, well the gym is finally open (I got up at 4.30am today!), so I might get down there and do an early cardio.

Hi Kimmy :)   Thanks for stopping by.  We must catch up soon!

Off to the Big Smoke!

I’m off on a small trip to the big smoke.  I can’t wait to hit the shops for some much needed retail therapy.  Sitting at Mildy airport having a cuppa to wake me up.  can you believe I got charged for excess baggage already!   Thanks to my super sized case, and food and supplements I have to lug around with me!   I’m sure the case itself weighs half of my allowance.  Must get smaller case!

Today I have felt quite drained.  Probably one of the first times I’ve felt this way so far this prep.  I had cardio first, then had to eat, then straight to training so the two were fairly close together.  I’ve been so hungry, just these past two days, am wolfing down my meals.  The food seemed a lot to me a couple of weeks ago, now, not so much J  the days of 4 meals are pretty tough now.

I am considering giving myself a day or two off training/cardio over the next few days.  Discussed it briefly with my trainer.  My body is being very stubborn.  Virtually no visual change in 4 weeks – apart from looking bigger, muscularly, which is great – not so great if there’s no fat loss involved though.  That’s with every 2nd day weight training and the equivalent of 10 cardio sessions per week.  It usually takes awhile to kick in, around the 5 week mark so hoping this is it and something happens very soon!  I LOVE my weight training.  I am getting stronger in the one legged stuff, it’s great.  I now have some sessions of 70 mins for cardio which I don’t like so much!!  I am doing long sessions on the bike now, never thought I’d be able to do that!

This is somewhat of a business trip to Melbourne as well.  I’m meeting Kirsten from Women’s Health & Fitness tomorrow, over coffee, to discuss advertising etc, for the coming 12 months.  Looking forward to meeting her.

Also meeting up with Kerry M for coffee, probably Wednesday morning.  Looking forward to a good old catch up there.

An update!

It’s been some time since I’ve had a real update on what is happening with me, so at 6.32am Sunday morning, I figure now is the best time – before I get stuck into the day’s work.  I’ve been up since 4am – feel great though and I am generally sleeping really well these days.  I’m going to bed earlier too, as I find I’m tired and feel like sleeping, which is great, as I used to get a 2nd wind at nighttime then find it difficult to wind down.

Training and Diet

Maybe the training is helping the sleeping, and I’m sure my supplementation is as well.  After a bit of a rough start to the diet, I’m settling into it now.  It was a bit rough on my insides – didn’t agree with me completely!   I’ve had some changes made to it this week and it’s much more agreeable.  Loving ‘new’ things being incorporated into my diet such as flax meal and pumpkin seeds.

I’m recovering really well from my training – I’m doing 13 sessions per week so I need some help with recovery and find my supplement regime is really doing the job – as well as my post workout nutrition.  I’m barely getting any DOMS – well, apart from deadlifting day last week!   I love how my training is structured.  I train one day on, one off.  Each workout is either upper body or lower body, but, all days have some leg work involved.  ie on one upper body day I have some DB presses with squats and DB Iron Crosses (a shoulder fly with squat).  They are combined in a giant set with close grip pulldowns, and let me tell you, they do amazing things to my heart rate.

Damien is of course back home after his surgery, and has recovered very well from that.  They took out a huge abcess from behind his eye – went through his old scar from the cyst they removed 3 months ago.  However, he now has a cold - not good after just finishing megadoses of antibiotics.  I’m trying to get him to take some supplements to help, but seriously it’s like talking to a brick wall!

I don’t think I mentioned but he has himself a new job now, he starts next week and is very excited about it.  It’s a great job, and I’m very proud of him!  He will be project manager for the new solar power station that’s being developed here in North West Victoria -

Shopping Trip

I have decided it’s time to shout myself a trip to Melbourne for some shopping.  Damien is down there for his first with with Solar Systems, so I’ll tag along and do a bit of shopping.  I have scouted out accommodation with kitchen, and, next to a Fitness First gym so I can still do my training and stick to my diet.   I’ve also been in discussion with the NZ current affairs show about possibly doing my interview then – however I’ve realised I will have 5 week old roots in my hair so will try and arrange for the week after when I will have new ‘fur’. Can’t go on tv with a racing stripe!

IBO stuff

Things are ticking along nicely.  I’m still answering all enquiries, I managed to do some last night but I still have 26 new enquiries to reply to!  That’s today’s job.  What with Today Tonight and this week’s That’s Life! mag, we have had a bit of publicity recently.

My staff are doing a wonderful job.  We have a great team, who are committed to their clients and are very passionate about what they do.   So, to Kristin, Michelle, Shelly and Hilary, as well as my amazing team of mentors – Carolyn, Jodie, Shelly (again), Kate, Lisa, Maxine and Eleni – a huge thank you for the efforts you put in and for the passion you display in helping your clients achieve their goals and dreams.  I’ve certainly had some great feedback from lots of clients lately.

I hope all the competitors had a wonderful day at the All Female.  Congratulations to all girls who made it!

The snowball effect!

Our segment on Today Tonight seems to have had a bit of a snowball effect!  I’ve been contacted by and am in discussions with a NZ current affairs program about a segment on Ideal Bodies Online.  This story has a little twist to it!  Should be very exciting if it comes off!  As you can imagine, we’ve been run off our feet a little bit, but nothing we can’t handle!  As you can also imagine, I’m just loving it!

Welcome to all our new clients via Today Tonight, and of course all our clients via the ‘usual’ channels!

TT Melbourne still hasn’t shown our segment, still hopeful it will happen soon.

National TV!

For those who missed it, our segment is here on Adelaide’s Today Tonight site.  The story is called “Flab to Fab” – you can search for this title, Ideal Bodies Online, Sue Heintze, Carolyn Gerdtz or Kellie Robins in the Stories area on left hand side, and it will automatically bring up the story.  Then click on ‘video’.  You’ll need high speed internet connection to view.

2008 – and a half – by Craig Harper

2008… and a Half

Posted: 29 Jun 2008 06:46 AM CDT

* Note: this article won’t be relevant for every reader. For those of you who have followed through on your New Year’s resolutions and done amazing things, you may want to check back in tomorrow. For some of you it will be a timely poke in the ribs, for others it will be reality check and for many it will be an opportunity to stop, step back and take stock of where you are at in relation to where you planned to be at this stage of the year.

pdaQ. So guess what today is?
A. It’s the last day of the first half of the year.

Yep, we’re officially half way through 2008.

Shit!

If you’re like many people, then exactly six months ago you were all pumped about the new year that lay ahead of you and all the amazing things you were about to do, create and achieve in your soon-to-be-very-different life. Yep… 2008; the year of change. Re-invention. Resolution. Revolution. The new you.

Apparently.

Your reality was about to take an incredible turn for the better; different habits, different mindset, different behaviours, different relationships and of course, different outcomes. You were excited and expectant about all the amazing things that were about to happen in your world because apparently January 1 is the day that we all become incredibly different.

You would have done it earlier but as we all know New Year’s Day is a much better day to change your life than say… December 16. And as for November 22, you wouldn’t even consider that. Not only is November 22 a stupid date to change but last year it fell on a Thursday… and we all understand that nobody changes their life by starting something on a Thursday. Monday is the official start day for change. That’s the rule.

Ask anybody.

targetSure, you had made similar resolutions before but this time it was gonna be different. You said so.

No, really.

So like the multitudes of would-be-life-transformers, you waited for the life-changing day to arrive; January 1, 2008.

The official change day.

And like every other year, New Year’s day came and went. And for a little while you were different. Well, actually you were the same. You acted different(ly) for a few weeks (days perhaps) but inside you hadn’t really changed at all. Your behaviour was temporarily different but you were the same. You went through the motions as you’ve done many times before (simulated transformation) and then just like you always do, you found a reason to stop. Again. A very legitimate-sounding reason of course. You’re good at that. As soon as the excitement and emotion of the new year died down, so too did your new-found mindset and behaviours.

So here we are, half way through another year and for some of us it’s time to suck it up and ask ourselves a few honest questions. Here’s are a few I’ve asked myself over the years and the answers I came up with.

Q. What have I learned about creating genuine (forever) change since January 1?

A.
Creating positive change in my life has nothing to do with a date on a calendar and everything to do with me. My attitude, my determination, my honesty, my self-assessment, my discipline, my ability to deal with adversity and discomfort and my preparedness to do what needs to be done day in, day out. Even on Thursdays. Even when I’m tired. Even when it ain’t fun. Even when it’s not easy. Or convenient.

Q. What have I learned about New Year’s resolutions?

A.
For the majority, they don’t lead to long-term behavioural change. They don’t work.

Q. What has stopped me from achieving what I set out to at the start of the year?

A.
Me.

Q. What else have I learned?

A.
I can’t rely on motivation to get me there; it’s a temporary emotional state. Passion is great but it needs to be wrapped around a fail-safe, non-negotiable plan.
thumbs up
Q. And?

A. I’m better off doing a few things well, rather than twenty things poorly.

So, I’ve got three questions for you:

1. What have you learned since January 1?

2.
What are you going to do differently in the second half of this year?

3. How will you ensure that your answer to question two becomes a reality rather than just another intention?
