Monthly Archive for February, 2008

Tammy, the gym in the pictures is Beachhouse.

I’m really lethargic today.  Weird, as I had only probably 4 hours sleep on Monday night, felt great all day, then slept like a baby last night.  Woke up feeling fine, and then just died in the butt this arvo.  Have a bit of a headache, feel a bit sick in the stomach and just feel like going to bed.  Wonder if it may have anything to do with seeing the osteopath this afternoon, whether your body can have some sort of ‘blah’ reaction to the treatment.  Apparently my right hip is significantly rotated to the rear and stretching my psoas muscle and causing the back pain.  No training or cardio allowed until Friday, to allow it to settle down.

Jodie and I had a great chest session last night.  We pre fatigued with incline flys then followed with incline bench, more flys and and then flat bench.  I could barely bring my arms across my body to wash myself in the shower!  Bit sore today, and will be even worse tomorrow.

Just a quick check in, I’m a bit behind in my work due to a staff member down, and having 15 new clients this week.  I can’t do anymore tonight though, so signing off for now!

I’m going to Cairns!

Well should I say WE are going to Cairns!  At rather short notice we have arranged a trip up there to train Kristin in program writing, which she is excited about, and this will double as our holiday for 2008.  We’ve combined it with our trip to Adelaide to see Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander on 28 April.  So, will drive to Adelaide, and fly out on the Tuesday to Cairns, spend a few days with Kristin, and then head up to Palm Cove to relax for a week!  I will be in comp prep so will be training my bum off and dieting but, I will be taking the week off from work so that will be nice.  The following Friday I head off to Brisbane again!!  No rest for the wicked.  I think that might be the end of tripping around until after the comp, apart from visiting Sandy of course.

Entered my food into Calorie King today and sent off to Sandy.  My carbs weren’t high enough so need to increase my oats at Meal 1 and she is going to have a closer look tomorrow and rejig it a bit.

Training

Crap!!  I am so deconditioned leg training wise.  My program consists of just knee extension and leg press, curls and stiff leg deadlifts at present due to my injury.  After straight setting I had to superset one legged leg press and one legged extensions.  I lifted wussy little weights and the lactic acid burn was intense.  I didn’t want to overdo it and also wanted to see what effect it would have on my hip and lower back when I wake up tomorrow.  I am seeing the osteopath this week, thank goodness.  It’s been over 5 weeks since I sustained this injury and it should be fixed by now!   I did 20 mins on the bike after training and actually enjoyed it!  It doesn’t affect my hip at all which is good.  Tomorrow I have cardio in the morning, will do 30 mins, and then Jode and I are training chest and abs.  Wed is another double session, then I have Thursday off and Friday just training.  I’ve scheduled it that way as I am program writing on those days.

Thursday night we are going to see Glenn Archer and support the Roos at a $100 head dinner.  This will be my off diet day for this week I think, unless I decide otherwise.

I can’t sleep at the moment, I think due to the fact I have a couple of things on my mind business wise.  Generally I have been sleeping well and down to 1mg per night now.  I might go and listen to some relaxation tunes after this to switch off.

Had a beautiful dinner last night, outdoors at the Spanish Bar & Grill.  I had lamb backstrap, medium rare.  It was melt in the mouth.  We had a very productive chat re business goals too, so we are both fired up to do plenty of things this year.

I bought some new Asics off ebay a couple of weeks ago.  What would have cost me $260 here, cost about $110, including postage.  They are the exact same ones I have now so I knew they would fit.  They are so shiny and new compared to my grungy old ones!

Ok, well that’s about all I have to say for the moment!

Hi AJ, no I haven’t seen that one but must check it out – yes, my sponsor, Jason Woodforth from MRM, introduced me to them and he too made it look extraordinarily easy.

Well we have been booking airfares like they are going out of fashion.  We are off to Melbourne, not this week but next, for Damien’s operation.  I’m his ‘escort’ :)   We fly down on the Tuesday, he has surgery on Wednesday and we plan to fly back on the Friday.  Now they are going through his nose they don’t expect him to have to stay in hospital for so long.  They have booked us some accommodation, which is good because there wasn’t much available on the Thursday, being Grand Prix weekend.  Funny, I will be almost down there for PHAT Camp but not quite.  So, the credit cards are taking a bit of a beating of late with the medical stuff.  Currently waiting on over $1200 of rebates on previous trips.

I received all my training and diet info from Sandy last week and today finally sorted it out and wrote up some schedules etc.  I have higher and lower carb days, and am also allowed a glass of red every night if I want.  I have one day off each week.  Training 5 x week and doing 100 mins of cardio, all low/moderate intensity.  I am starting a new supplement schedule as soon as I get my new supps from Michelle.   Will be adding those to my current regime which is based on glutamine, BCAA’s, EFA’s and the regular vitamins (B, C, E).

Got my iron tests back the other day and still have elevated levels of a couple of things which I am unsure as to why, so have to speak to doctor.  I’m not on iron tabs and haven’t been since November, but these are still elevated.  It says can be caused by ‘inflammation’ or ‘increased iron stores’.

We are going out for dinner tonight – were going to go last night but Damien wasn’t feeling too well, so making up for it tonight.  Discussing some goals and various business things for the next 12 months.

My injury is really starting to P*SS me off!!  Now I have a very tight, and rather sore lower back.  It aches when I sit.   I did 40 mins of cardio with Jode on Sat morning and it just exacerbates the problem.  Jode stayed out for an hour but I had to walk home as my injury was playing up.  I have legs tomorrow so not sure how I will go, even though my program is written with my injury in mind.  Will do my best.  My legs are feeling decidely soft due to not having a hard session since before Christmas!!

Ok, nearly time to get ready to go out.  Did a big day of work today as I have the New You Challenge winners to announce early in the week, as well as tidying up my inbox which I still haven’t finished.

ab wheel

Click to enlargeThis is an ab wheel Doris and Hils.  Mine only has one middle bit though, which makes it less sturdy and even harder.  You think your back is going to break when you first try it.  I still only do it from my knees but I can do a set of 20 now.  My next set I can only get about 10. Be prepared for sore abs for days on just a few sets.

Thanks Charlotte, yes my back tends to stay fairly lean year round.

Jodie and I trained shoulders today – new program.  Heavy shrugs, heavy db presses, rear delt flys, side raises and cable upright rows.  Only took us about 40 mins which was good.  Leaving my cardio for tomorrow morning.  Will do 40 mins, that covers 2 x 20 min sessions.  No training tomorrow.

Kerry was here today, so we got a bit of a chance for a small catch up in between work.  Sounds like she is getting into some exciting things business wise!

Short check in today.  I had my iron blood tests done today just to see where they are at.  I also have a naturopath appointment tomorrow to have a blood analysis done, just because it’s pretty cool and I want to see what they say :)   I have been sleeping well at night and not feeling groggy in the day time which is great – down to 1.5mg now.  I am still having to sleep some afternoons though, but as long as I keep sleeping at night I don’t mind.  Won’t be long and I will be drug free :)

On 2nd thoughts, no, I won’t.

Short update

straight-arm-bottom-shrug-machine-1.jpglat-pul-bottom-position-19208.jpg

A bit behind the eightball at the moment so just a quick post.  If I haven’t replied to email, I’m definitely getting there.  I have a few more updates to attend to tomorrow and then must get stuck into writing programs.  I don’t have a lot of help this week so I’m pushed to the max.  Found out Damien’s op will be on 12th March so will probably be driving down to Melbourne for a few days on the 11th.

Got my new training regime today – back day today but had to call Sandy and go through a few things with her that I wasn’t sure about.  One is our lat pulldown machine – it doesn’t have a bar, so I had to get Jodie to take some photos of different exercises to make sure that I was on the right track.  Attached a couple.  Haven’t really taken any gym photos of late so it’s good to get a few.

My abs are so sore!!  It’s that damn ab wheel!  Jodie and I got sore backs from doing chest the other day :)   Guess we are using our backs too much on the incline bench press!   Whoops.  Especially when our chests didn’t really get very sore at all!

Tomorrow Kerry is heading up to spend a few hours here and help me out with bookwork.  Well, do my bookwork, I am not much help in that department :)   I am looking forward to catching up.

Had a lovely chat and coffee with Nadia yesterday, she has some big goals coming up and it will be great to work with her on them.

Ok I really must go, feeling very tired since about 9pm so, might hit the hay!  Training at 4pm tomorrow with Jodie, new shoulder program.

Sunday round up

I had a really great day today – felt very motivated and switched on today so that has been a nice change!  I reduced my medication dose last night to 1.5mg so maybe that has helped me feel less groggy.  I was reading a doctor’s report which discusses how to wean off benzo’s and it was talking about people who use over 80mg of diazepam a DAY!  Here I am on 2mg and feeling like a wrung out rag, I can’t imagine taking that much – I’d be in a coma I think.  Anyway, today I got a bunch of backed up work done.

Training

Had a good session with Jodie today, we trained chest and biceps, with some abs.  I did 20 reps on the ab wheel, my best so far.  Let’s see if I am sore.  12 sets of chest, was a bit sore from shoulders and tris though which didn’t help.  I haven’t got my new training regime yet, I am hoping it may come through tonight!  I even did 20 mins of cardio (mostly bike) after my training, whoop de doo, but hey it’s something :)   And it didn’t hurt my hip but my legs felt like jelly afterwards, goes to show how detrained I currently am in the cardio (especially bike riding) department.

Damien has gone out to pick up Indian for dinner.  We have been having this a bit lately – if he had his way I think we would have it every night.  We have found 2 new dishes and we keep getting the same ones all the time.  A lamb one (really hot) and a milder chicken one.  Plus some cottage cheese blocks and peas in curry sauce, yum, naan bread and mango chutney and yoghurt dip.  :)   Of course rice too.

Body & Soul

My article appeared today, was pretty happy with how it came up!  Also we were mentioned in the lead story, “A Fresh Start” – by Louisa Deasey, with Carolyn again featuring!  She is a hot topic these days!

New You competition – Grand Champion 2007

Will be announced in a week’s time – we have the list of finalists on the home page.  Congratulations on some wonderful transformations – it will be so very difficult to choose our eventual winner and runner up.

Having coffee with Nadia tomorrow, Nadia is a previous client who lives in Mildura – we met by chance at the gym after she’d finished her 12 week program.  So, will be nice to catch up with her.  Hope everyone has a fab week!

Oh yeah…

Firstly thank you very much to Charlotte for the advice re my injury, I really appreciate it and I will keep that in mind for next time I am down that way.  And Hils, I laughed out loud when you thought it was my Rexy cat calling Damien.  He is smart, but not quite that smart :)   Sorry, I get a bit bogged down and then somehow manage to forget to reply to comments!

Secondly, I was fortunate enough to snag some great tickets with Tiger Airways after the July comp – so we are going to spend 4 nights on the Gold Coast.  $140 return for 2 people, not too shabby.  Only thing is I will have to offload my suitcase before I leave as their max luggage is 15kg per person!  I usually have close to double that!!

Ideal Bodies Online Stuff

Jodie and I are meeting after training today to chat about the New You Challenge and to choose our winners for 2007.  It will be a very difficult task that is for sure – how do you pick between so many amazing transformations?

We welcome Hilary Potter as our new Feedback Coach.  Hils has been a Personal Success Mentor with IBO for some time now and is now taking on the role of Feedback Coach.

JASON ALEXANDER’S COMEDY SPECTACULAR is the must see show for 2008.

For his portrayal of George, Alexander earned six Emmy and four Golden Globe nomination, an American Television Award and two American Comedy Awards for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series’. The Screen Actors Guild went one step higher and knighted him ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series’, despite his role as a supporting actor.

Been awhile between posts

Been busy what can I say.  Hadn’t been sleeping well and had to fly to Melbourne on Tuesday to see Sandy – up at 5am and back at 8pm – with 3 days of 4-5 hours sleep, I was absolutely buggered by the time I got back.  It all went smoothly though which was good, flights on time, straight onto skybus, straight onto train as Spencer Street out to Mentone station.  Time for a coffee and some work before meeting Sandy at the gym which is nicely located across the road from the station.  Sandy is really on the same wavelength as I am when it comes to comp prep so I am looking forward to working with her again.   I’ve only ever done 1/3 of a comp prep with her so will be great to do the whole lot and see how I come up. She thinks  I will only need 12 weeks to prepare, so she obviously thinks I am in better nick than I thought I was!  In between now and then I am going to start on a general nutrition plan with the aim to increase my strength and add a bit of muscle.  I should get that tomorrow.  I will be training 5 x week too, rather than 4.  20 mins of cardio 5 x week at this stage and while it’s that low I might just do it after training to give me my mornings free.

I still have injury problems but did do a leg session yesterday and managed some leg presses, lots of knee extensions, some curls and SL deadlifts.  Pretty light on most things except extensions.  I saw a physio on Monday, and she noted that my entire right side of my back muscles seem to have ‘gone to sleep’ ie the left side is very pronounced, overcompensating for the lazy right side.  I did some one legged knee extensions yesterday and it was quite interesting how much weaker my right leg was to my left.  I must admit, I’ve been finding it hard to be motivated with this injury.   If I can’t lift heavy or give it my all I tend to think ‘what’s the point’.  Whichis silly I know.  I missed my workout today as I have been feeling so groggy and tired – slept well last night and had to go back to bed at 1pm for an hour and half.  I still can’t wake up.  Thought it was the medication I’m on but tonight I have a headache, have had the runs (TMI, I know!) and can barely keep my eyes open.  So, maybe it’s something else, who knows.

My article will be in Body & Soul liftout in the paper on Sunday so that is quite exciting!

Had some better news on our protein supply and it looks like it could be ready to go by mid week.  Let’s hope, I know it’s turned my store manager to drink :)

Latest news on Damien’s surgery is that he will have the cyst out of his nose rather that his head which he is happy about.  Still no dates but I imagine it will be soon.

Ok, best log off, my brain is feeling a bit overworked :)   I have a couple of programs to do tomorrow and then I might try and have Sunday off!

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day – we couldn’t get in anywhere for dinner, left it too late.  I got some lovely flowers.
