Time for an update

My site and email was down for about 4 or 5 hours today which I wasn’t very impressed about, but that is a whole lot better than 3 weeks, like happened a few years ago.

Training

I’m now a member of 2 of the 3 gyms in our town.  The one Jodie and I used to go to has opened back up again – they had a decent opening special so I thought ‘what the heck’ and joined.  Damien and I both joined, but we were away at the time and you had to actually buy the memberships before a certain date.  We had a friend put a deposit on for us.  When we got back we went in to pay the rest of our $ and have a look around.  I was a bit disappointed to be honest.  I was hoping to see the infamous hack squat machine, and the T Bar Row machine, and a lying ham curl.  None of those.  Apparently the ham curl is coming, and so are the dumbbells in the ladies gym – at the moment they have lovely coloured mini dumbbells to work with :)   The super duper cable machine thingy that you can do everything on was not there either.  No mirrors in front of squat racks in main gym which is really weird – I doubt I could squat heavy weights without being able to check on my form.  They only have one moveable incline bench in the entire gym and none in the ladies gym.  There wasn’t even (that I could see) a v grip handle that they used to have apart from a really old rusty one.  So, I ordered my own V Grip from my sponsor.  Now I have my own rope attachment, ab wheel, resistance band and soon, v grip!  I’m like a walking portable gym!  Lucky I have a big gym bag.

To the good bits – they have lots of GF classes – whilst the other gym now has bugger all.  Simply not enough instructors (good, bad or otherwise) to go around this town.   Their seated ham curl is better as the padding goes across your quads instead of your shins – though it hurt my quads as I must have had some deep muscle soreness, it was still more comfy on the back and I felt it worked my hammies better.  I’m sure there are other good things but I can’t seem to recall what they are at the moment!  Oh yes, the 45 degree leg press.  Jodie’s and my favourite leg press.   I did 3 sets on this after drop sets and progressing overload sets on knee extension, followed by 3 sets of 10 squats at 50kg.  It is such a good machine.  I then did 3 sets of 20 long jumps (plyos) followed by hammies.  I am very sore.  In fact I must have pulled something when squatting or pressing as my right hip is giving me some grief.  The right side of my lower/mid back is also really sore in spots.  It hurts to walk and so I can’t do cardio today.  I did manage some yesterday – it was fine to start with but by the time I got home it started to get sore.  The good news is my groin has been really good since my guru of a chiropractor worked on my rectus abdominus muscle which he said was somehow causing my adductor muscle to be pulled out of place.  Ouch, it hurt when he was doing it but within a day I had no groin pain.

Ok, well I have a busy day ahead so I best get to it.  I’ve decided to train tonight since I can’t do cardio.  Chest, bis and calves.  Jodie and I trained last night, shoulders and tris.

It’s raining and it’s lovely!!! Having a barbie tonight on our new barbie – finally got one.  I will have a piece of salmon, see how it turns out as bbq’d rather than grilled.

Crummy sleep

But feeling pretty good considering I woke at 3.45am and got up at 4.09am.  I’d done half a day’s work by 9!  I did not do my cardio but I did have a great back and rear delt workout with Jodie tonight.  And abs – did the same as last week with a couple more reps – see if I get anywhere near as sore.

I plan to be in bed extraordinarily early tonight as I have another big day tomorrow.  Cardio at 6.15am (if I don’t make the class I will do it after doc appointment), doc appt at 8am, work, train legs in evening.

I’m teeing up with Jodie to video some exercises with me so I can add them to the Library database.  Some of the more out of the ordinary exercises that I can’t find on the net – like rear delt pull throughs!

Thanks Ali, yes it is a nice pic of the girls!

Very short and sweet from me, time for some R&R.

Dinner in Brissy - Hils, Rach and IDinner in Brissy – Hils, Rach and I

Sleep Deprivation

I got about 4 hours sleep max, the night before I left so I was a wrung out rag by the time I got to Brissy!  I managed to sit down with Rach and go through a few things before having to have a brain rest at 5.30pm.  In hindsight, a later flight would probably have worked better.  Rach is a whiz with the programming.  Having been a feedback coach for some time now she is very familiar with my programs, and this no doubt has helped a great deal.  Rachel’s new title with Ideal Bodies Online is Programs Co-ordinator.  She will still provide some feedback to clients she has previously worked with.  So, this means I am on the lookout for a new Feedback Coach – I have someone in mind and we have chatted, so will be in the process of getting this on the go over the next few weeks.

RAAF

Rach took me to the RAAF gym where she works – I wanted to wrap it up and bring it home with me – it has everything.  She showed me around the base – I was very impressed.  I even had to have my photo taken and special pass made up to be allowed in.  Thursday I was still too sore to train because of my back, rear delt and abs workout with Lisa and Jodie.  My abs, well I’m not sure what is going on with that but I have had the sorest abs – trained them Tuesday midday, it’s now Saturday and they are still sore to the touch!!   Lis/Jode, you saw what I did for abs – bugger all!  Heavy/hard stuff though.  Weighted incline sit ups to failure, only 2 sets, and 2 sets of 10 with the ab wheel.  That was it!!!  If anyone wants sore (and strong) abs get an ab wheel.  It takes a bit of building up to, you feel like your back might break to begin with, but eventually it gets a little easier.

Training

Anyway, so the Thursday Rach trained and I did cardio with her cardio coach program.  First time I’ve used this and I was impressed.  It really helps to push you through and work harder, and makes things a little more interesting with the different intervals.  I used the tready, stepmill and elliptical for a 40 minute high intensity workout.  Yesterday we trained shoulders and triceps.  I’m due to train again today but I doubt I will have time to get to the gym before it closes.   I will train tomorrow instead, and Jodie and I have some cardio planned too.  I am fairly up to date with work – one program to finish off and I will do this when I have my wait at the airport in Melbourne.

Carolyn the Great

Carolyn featuring in the WHO mag has been fantastic for business, it’s a pity it’s only on the shelves for a week but I would probably be insane if it was out any longer than that!

Nadia, it was lovely to hear from you and great to see you still contributing to the forum.  You are a true success story, fitness is now a lifestyle for you!

Bye bye from ‘sunny’ Qld!

Rach has just dropped me off after 2.5 days of intensive program writing, with a couple of training sessions thrown in.  I loved the weather – it was nice and cool!  It’s been over 40 degrees at home since I left so I am also glad I missed that.  We had dinner with Hilary one night and that was fun too.  I have a pic to post when I get home.  Rach and Aaron were such wonderful hosts and I thank them so much for having me and looking after me while I was here.  I’m sitting at the airport waiting to board the flight to Melbourne – line has started to move so I best log off and get moving.  More soon!

Business as usual

who-magazine-carolyn-gerdtz.jpg

Very bl**dy busy though!  The WHO Mag article (above) has really set things in motion, if the beginning of a new year wasn’t crazy enough!!  All good of course.  I might just beat last week, with 15 new clients already for this coming Monday, and expecting a few more to come in tomorrow. Rach and I will have our work cut out for us while I’m in Brissy!

Thanks everyone for the sympathy messages about my tooth – it still feels weird having a black hole back there but all good now.  Visit to chiro tomorrow, having lots of issues with my groin, probably due to the influx of cardio I’ve been doing.  An hour every morning, well all but the day I had to have my tooth out.

Trained legs tonight, first time in a couple of weeks and I was struggling a little!  I cut the sets back on some exercises so I wouldn’t be a cripple in a couple of days.  My chest is still sore from a few days ago.

Not much to report, just bizzy, same tomorrow, got laundry and packing to do too, as well as cardio, training and chiro appointment.

Training with the girls

lisa-and-i-jan-2008.jpgTraining

I trained with Lisa Vaughan today – previous client and Body Blitz winner.  Here is a pic of us training, thanks to camerawoman Jodie.  We trained chest and biceps.  It’s fun as we get to share some ideas and different exercises etc.  Lisa’s very knowledgeable in the rehab department and I always pick up some good tips and info from her.  I will upload the pic later because the batteries are flat and on charge at the moment.

Carolyn, our WHO Magazine celebrity

Well, the long awaited WHO Magazine is out – Carolyn Gerdtz and I are in the middle page spread, and of course Carolyn’s is the best transformation by a mile :)   I’m not biased at all!!   No, really there are some great transformations there.  Anyway, go check it out – it’s their annual “Half Their Size” edition, with lots of weight loss stories (mostly celebs – and Carolyn’s a bit of a celeb as far as I’m concerned).

I was up for my hour of cardio this morning, but didn’t head out until 9am.  It was a scorcher once again, so by the time I got back the sun was getting extraordinarily hot.  I walked/ran/stairs down by the river and found as much shade as I possibly could – which wasn’t enough!  I am enjoying my cardio now, which is nice!

Off to sunny (or is that rainy) QLD

I head off to Brissy on Wednesday, and will be catching up with Rachel for a few days.  It will be nice to chat in person rather than email all the time!  I’m sure we will get a lot done too.

More weight loss success

I’ve just had another lady lose an incredible 14kg in 12 weeks – Janet’s done an amazing job.  But, for those who don’t have that big of a scale weight loss don’t worry, you can make incredible changes with only a loss of a few kgs.  The big visual difference comes from body composition changes – your muscle to fat ratio.  So, if you drop a bit of fat, add a bit of muscle, it may not show a huge dent on the scale, but, will equate to some very nice visual changes.  Lisa Vaughan that I spoke of above is one of those who only lost 4kg in 12 weeks but completely changed her body shape into something amazing (by eating more and doing less cardio!)

Ok well that’s about it for today – just about ready to cook up some grilled salmon caesar salad for dinner and sit down to watch Survivor.  Ciao!

Extraction!

I lost a tooth!  I rang the dentist first thing this morning and within 5 minutes I was in the chair (I live very close by to everything!).  So, apparently it was my wisdom tooth that was causing all the problems, so, they decided to just yank it out there and then!  I’ve never had a tooth out before.  I was told not to train today :(   So, it has to wait for another day.  I’ve almost forgotten what to do in the gym!  Not really.  Anyway, it is actually feeling much better now.  I did feel like the Elephant Man for quite some time this morning however.

We have friends around for dinner so this is just a very quick check in.  Tomorrow I will be up early to get some cardio in – it’s been so hot it’s impossible to walk any other time but early morning or dusk.

Think I’m headed to bed early tonight, didn’t sleep the best last night but hopefully now the offending tooth has gone it will be a different story!

Another year bites the dust

I can’t believe it, how fast is the time going!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable NYE – personally, I’m not a huge fan of NYE, never have been.  After all the Christmas build up I’m a bit over celebrating.  We actually didn’t even realise it was new year – too busy watching Oz dvd’s.  I guess we are old and married :)

So, how many people out there are feeling totally crap after all this previously mentioned celebrating?  Quite a few I would imagine, including myself!  It never ceases to amaze me how my body rejects eating heavy/rich foods ie what some people eat all the time.  I become very lazy and tired, I get aching joints, and a horrible taste in my mouth.  I guess it was compounded by the fact that I wasn’t training either (resting my hammie/groin).  However, all it takes is one or two days of eating clean to feel normal again.  And, those days were yesterday and today.  I was up at 6am today, New Year’s Day – I was out walking by 7.30am.  Let me say it was very quiet out on the roads – I was imagining how many hangovers there would be in each house as I was jogging by.  Funnily enough, I ran into Jodie down by the river, also getting her cardio in before another scorcher of a day set in.  I did a good hour of walk/running.  I want to go  for another walk but it’s still way too hot and it’s 7pm.  Will see what it’s like in an hour or so.

I had a big day of work today so I couldn’t afford to be hungover at any rate.  I have 19 new programs for this Monday coming!  Yep, it’s the new year!!  I’ve completed 10 so far, so I feel on top of things.  When people get back to work I imagine the emails will come flooding in again.

Our poor garden has taken a beating with this hot weather while we were away.  Half of our garden is half dead :(   Temps have been over 40 for days now.  So, last night, this morning and tonight we have been out there with buckets.

I have a toothache :(   I have been living on painkillers since Saturday.  I thought I would wait and see how it came up but it’s not getting any better.  I can’t chew on the left side of my mouth and last night managed to somehow screw that up and the pain nearly sent me through the roof.  That brought on a head/jaw/neck/face ache like you wouldn’t believe.  I had to get an ice pack and ice my face!

I hope to catch up with Lisa Vaughan, previous Body Blitz winner, and now friend – in the next few days.  I think we were going to do some cardio but, in this weather I think outdoor cardio is not really an option.

Ok, must go water, then think about dinner.
